Just a question anyone know of what is coming out in the first person theme game?

I use to have some much fun with Quake, Duke Nukem and Kingpin.

Would be nice to see something come out other then war first person games.

Dusk, Amid Evil, Ion Fury are excellent modern takes on Quake/Blood, Heretic and Duke 3D respectively. There's actually an indie magazine, E1M1, floating out there dedicated just to the retro-styled FPS revival that's going on.

My opinion is that most modern games suck.

That said, you can have a look at the Stanley Parable. It is an adventure/storytelling game built on the half-life engine. Not exactly recent, though.

If you are into terror, check the first Amnesia game. Beware: if you play witha
real sound system, in the dark with a candleholder, it is one of the few horror games that actually give you the creeps. Then again, not really recent. Known to run on Linux.

A couple of years ago I downloaded Duke Nukem 3D and discovered a hi-def pack. Oh boy, what an amazing difference. I'd highly recommend it.

I played a lot of Quake 2, in fact Thunderwalker CFT mod was my favorite. I
was in a clan with 3 other guys, Frags 'r' Us...and did we frag! We played
lots of games, never lost a series and only a couple of games in total. I miss those guys.

Somethign I have learned is that reviews are only good to read after you have tried the thing yourself. Reviews and I often have incompatible opinions.

Well I think Heretic and Hexen are not even in the same competition.

Hexen is an exploration and puzzle solving game with multihub labyrinths. Heretic is KILLKILLKILL. Both are good but they scratch different itches for me.

Relatedly, fans of that game engine (ID 1) may want to have a look at Strife. An attempt at incorporating plot-changing decision making, stealth and other interesting concepts into what would otherwise be another Doom iteration. You basically get to wander a city governed by the evil Order, get to talk to people, accept missions, buy equipment etc. There exists the concept of stealthy weapons and noisy weapons; if you kill some evil dude with a gun other evil dudes will notice and show up and crush you. A stab in the back and the bastard will die in silence.
