• New additions

From Netsurge@77:77/5 to All on Tue Mar 3 21:24:16 2020
I recently won two auctions with some new 80s gear to add to my collection.

    1) For $133.50 USD + $48.21 USD in shipping I got:

    - Commodore 64 (Breadbin)
    - Commodore Plus 4
    - Timex Sinclair 1000
    - Panasonic HHC

    This will make my 8th C64 that I own (I know, I have a problem) which I
will probably clean up and use to barter for other retro gear. I
already have a Plus 4 but it's a PAL model so I'm stoked about that but
what I am really excited about is the Sinclair 1000. I have always
wanted to dip my toes into the British micros, great way to start.

    2) For $119.99 USD + $24.99 USD in shipping I got:

    - Factory sealed Commodore Plus 4. Never opened.

This one will definitely go into storage with hopes that I can bank on
its value going up over the next 10 - 15 years. Who knows, but for $145
    it's worth a gamble. I have a Commodore 64C and 1541C still sealed in
their original boxes, they even have the original price tags on them
    from Canadian Tire.

I would really like to get my hands on a few other British Micros and a Commodore 128D. If anyone has a line on anything like that hit me up.

Nice job sir! Haven't had a deal like that in a while. Nice to see some fun stuff still out there though.

That HHC is like a super 'roided up calculator! intense that's for sure.

    Lucky bugger :P

I used to have a collection of Commodores and Amigas but had to let them
go several years ago due to moving interstate.

This was my 1st computer. Got it used for $5 without a power supply. Went to

Nice system...but just wonder if the UK ZX-81 would appreciate more in value?

Some have died...others have landed in jail...with at least 1 lady I knew being picked up by the police for solicitation in the mid-late 90's. Thought about her the past couple of days...along with my last girlfriend 3-4 years ago. Thought my life was bad...but found out an old high school buddy of mine died in 99 escaping from the police in January by jumping in the lake & drowning. You should try and snag a BBC Micro Model B. These were very expanable with 32K rather thasn 16K the Model A came with and it was before the
BBC Master. If you want some ARM technology there's the Acorn Archimedes and even before the BBC Micro was the Acorn Atom and Acorn Electron. The BBC Micro and Mastero were also made by Acorn.

Apart from the BBC I also want to snag an Amstrad CPC. That super long ass keyboard with the built in dataset just looks awesome.

For the Spectrum I can't say I've heard of the 1000 but if you're going retro, ZX Spectrum is the way to go and if you want the cheapest of cheap then ZX81 (or even ZX80) they came as kits or prebuilt. The ZX81 had 1K
of memory and touch pads. You could get the 16K ram pack which many of
us ended up using sticky tape to stop it wabbing and disrupting an enthralling game of Mazogs!

The 1000 was essentially the NA release of the ZX. It was released here in NA by Timex and was almost a complete failure.

Assuredly not. He was probably an infant around then.

First computer I used was a Video Genie, pretty much a TRS-80 clone from the outside. It had a built in tape deck. Always worried me what happened if it went bad, would you have to replace the whole system? I seem to remember I liked the keyboard on that.

I had a Trash-80 when I was a kind, I think it was my first machine, or it might have been the CoCo, I don't remember any more what came first.

Trash-80 came first and the Model 1 was the first machine I ever really "experienced" twas absolute joy to play Robot Attack (Berzerk clone) and
there was a kids game that I only knew as Same/Different and it just showed
you two things on the screen and you had to press a key that indicated same
or differnt. It was played so much that we had stickers on the keyboard with
a smiley face and a frowny face so we knew what to press. :D

Eventually I got a Coco 3 years later and played Ninja Warrior, Download and Dungeons Of Daggoroth until it overheated and died.

So glad I have both those machines again :)

LMAO, I meant I don't remember which one I owned as a kid first, I think it
was the TRS-80 but who knows. I owned both. Most days I don't remember what I had for breakfast. I really only remember my C64 days onwards.

I am looking for both the TRS-80 and the CoCo to add to my collection. If you know anyone, the 4 hour drive to Ottawa is worth it. Plus, I tend to head up there often for work. We must grab a beer or some Chicken and Waffles at that place downtown I love.

No it's called Mason-Dixon on Preston. Although, I have spent a few
intoxicated nights at the Heart & Crown.

My first computer was a CoCo 2 - and I had a tape deck, of course. Didn't
know there were clones with built in tape deck though! That's a cool
    thought!

I still remember when I got that first floppy drive!
