I started reading the instructions, and within the first 2 or 3 sentences, I
realized that this game is not for me! So I immediately started trying to abort the instructions, but couldn't! And whoever wrote the instructions must
have really thought that people were gonna get intersted in such garbage, that
they decided not to make an abort button for those 100 pages of instructions!
I think with Tradewars you can just skip it, it's a pretty simple
concept.
I actually selected "Read Instructions" right away, because I don't understand the game one bit. But it was a long scroll of information and I tried a lot of keys to make it stop, but I was being held captive by that shit.
Another old one that I always heard about but never played is "Global Wars," but with a name that sounds a lot like "Trade Wars" I don't think it's gonna be much fun.
Someone recently was telling me all about TradeWars and how awesome it is, s gave it a try. After all, I couldn't remember what the game was like back in the old days.

Global War is basically RISK. It's fun, but you need to find an active game with other players, and I'm not sure where they are. It can be a lot of fun at least it was back when I played.

It's a basic trading game. You have a ship, and fly from zone to zone buying and selling goods. Whatever money you make goes towards
offensive or defensive capabilities. Eventually you can upgrade your ship, make bases on planets, fight other players, etc.

Well I used to play it this year uite a bit, but it was mostly Hustler and me doing the playing. Feel free to get some games started at BBS link and I will join, shall we?
I've never found a BBS with players that actively wanted to play GW, which is a bummer, because I love risk and hear this game is really cool.
If you have an Apple device and like these kinds of games, check out the game "Lux" on the app store.
BBSLink is a lot like Doorparty right? I haven't hooked up BBS Link yet.

Planets: TEOS (by Seth Robinson of LORD fame) is a pretty cool stripped down basic button-masher implementation of that same TW2002 concept.

I thik that for the modern man, games like Glowal War work a bit better, because you can devote 10 minutes a day to them and be done. You get the multiplayer experience without having to sacrify other hobbies to it.
for those 100 pages of instructions!
Was that on the SciNet Tradewars game server by chance?

I appreciate you sharing a more positive experience with it.
But as for the story line, don't all these games have pretty dull stories?

It is an instance where there are lots of Door running, so BBS all over theworld can connect to it and offer active games to their callers, even if theBBS themselves are not very active.

Sounds like maybe you don't like space exploration stories. What kind of stories do you like? Have you tried LORD?
Well, you might be better off not reading the instructions to start and then just try to see what happens. IIRC, back around 1990 when I got intoTW2002, that was how I played. I eventually got the hang of it.
Yea, LORD and Usurper are cool. I've been playing LORD since the old
days.
I like a lot of game stories, but I wouldn't want to play something
that's tooobsolete. I'm gonna have to find a way to love these classics more.
I seem to be the only person playing LORD2 on DoorParty. There's at
least other players on BBSLink.

That's another one I never fully understood. I'm gonna give it a try on DoorParty tomorrow when I have more weed in me.

I just tried the instructions and you are right! I guess maybe in the daysof dial-up, when stuff scrolled slower, it worked as intended. But youhave to hit the SPACE bar while it is scrolling, and not while it is
on aPause prompt, to get it to stop. Even then it was not real clear
what todo next.

Maybe that is why you have trouble understanding the stories?? :D

They also might just be expecting it to go into your scrollback buffer and pri
it out or save it to a file for later reading. I do remember doing things lik
that for a couple games in the olden times.

It could also be why he isn't understanding them.
Nah, I just tried TradeWars again now - I just can't get into it because I don't get space stuff. I was an unusual kid, and I never got into Star Wars, Star Trek, or any other space stuff.
I have the source for a version of TW somewhere. Maybe one day I can change it to something else... like you are driving a car instead of a spaceship, all the ports are stores, etc. Hmmmm...

Until recently I thought the game was all about the stock market.
There is one that is about a stock market. Gallactic Stocks, maybe?
