I have the NES ROM that comes with Linux distros. I love it. I got the USB gamepads, all the game files, and it's sweet.

For the past 10 years or so, I've had all this shit. And what do I do? Play Double Dragon II every time. That game is the best!! And I still can't beat it.

There's like 200 or more games for NES. Which other ones have such a cool
    story behind them?

It was cool back in the old days, to rent the games & read the manual (which would have the plot to the game's story.)

If you don't know Double Dragon's story, it's something about 2 brothers, the good guys, one of them gets their girlfriend abducted by the bad guys, and
the brothers fight like hell to get her back & get them off their streets.

    Kinda deep, eh?

So what other Nintendo games have a cool story?

Double Dragon rocks but I don't think its story is that great. It is very conventional by today's standards.

Double Dragon II is great. It's a weird one, in that there's several similar, but not really the same games with the same name. The arcade version is basically just Double Dragon with a new coat of paint and a few control tweaks.

The NES version is the best, with substantially more changes and tweaks from the original along with two player simultaneous. PC-Engine CD (TurboDuo) is an interesting one. It's based on the NES port but with fairly different gameplay and all new graphics. I actually don't like it as much as the NES version. (Just feels too loose and grindy.)

I would have to agree with you. I own the PC-Engine CD version. Although it
is a different style of game play, it's what makes it a unique game.

Yeah, let the Elements of Harmony blast the Temple of Chaos into oblivion! Then lets party hard with apple cakes and cider to celebrate in Canterlot.

BTW I think that episode in which Luna creates a dreamworld abomination to torment her during her sleep was very dungeons-and-dragonesque. "Ancient God creates a being designed to punish her for her past failures. The being soon escapes into the world of mortals and threatens to break havoc and turn
the physical plane into an eternal nightmare. Only six adventures can prevent such dire fate"

It's funny to me that at the time when it came out I was extremely annoyed with the control scheme. My child brain just couldn't wrap the whole punch forward, only kick back thing as a plus. I use to dislike Renegade in the arcade for the same reason. Now being a lot older and a little wiser, I get it know and it's quite enjoyable.

I think I'm one of the few people who loved the control scheme right off. It helps that in the original double dragon, there was little to no reason to have both a punch and a kick. (Or anything other than the elbow, if we're being honest with ourselves.)

I love this game. I'm still not sure after like 30 years how to consistently
do the spinning jump kick. If I were just a little bit stronger I'd probably have a lot of destroyed NES controllers trying to mash the buttons over and over to do the stupid kick hahah.

That'd possibly be the port of Double Dragon (1) to the Master System. A lot of reviewers preferred it over the NES version due to having better graphics and 2-player simultaneous play. Could also be Renegade, which is the prequel to Double Dragon (Renegade -> Kuno/River City -> Double Dragon is a whole conversation unto itself...)

That sounds like an idea pulled from the Ponyfinder splatbooks.

If you are wondering, Ponyfinder is a system addon you can apply to Dungeons and Dragons or Pathfinder, so you can play ponies that strap swords and armor on them and shred the forces of evil down to pieces.

Fun trivia: SMB's original design had a gun.

They should have kept it. Stupid mushrooms.

Hey..Whoa...Hey, whoa, hey, whoa, HEY, WHOA, heeeeeeeeey whoa

Let's not say hurtful things here! No need to fly off the handle.

Mushrooms are quite good, and maaaaaybe they just make that world
make a little more sense, or even our world sometimes. :D

Plus I mean it vaguely fits the theme, Italian, Pizza, Mushrooms...

(and thank you for the rimshot, you really are a full service SysOp)

Now there is a life motto to go by...

"Consarn it, if I's can eat it, damnation Imma gonna shoot it!"

That sounds like an idea pulled from the Ponyfinder splatbooks.

If you are wondering, Ponyfinder is a system addon you can apply to Dungeonsand Dragons or Pathfinder, so you can play ponies that strap

I appreciate this lead, but I will have to say that I've never heard of Ponyfinder or Pathfinder. I will read up on this though in case it's something my kid my like.

    Thanks.

Wow, if you don't know what Pathfinder is, you are extremely out of the loop.

Long story short: Pathfinder is a Dungeons and Dragons clone that got to sell more than Dungeons and Dragons itself, after Dungeons and Dragons parent company messed up.

Long story long: Once upon a time there was Dungeons and Dragons 3.5, and some people loved it. Its liceser allowed a lot of people to publish material for Dungeons and Dragons 3.5, so there were lots of unnoficial supplements, magazines and other materials.

One of the firms that published Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 material was Paizo. They had regular publications and were making $$$ of Dungeons and Dragons 3.5.

One day, Dungeons and Dragons 4 was released, and most people who loved 3.5 hated 4.

Dungeons and Dragons' parent company also pulled the plug for unofficial publications, so no third party material was allowed.

Paizo found itself unable to keep publishing D&D material, with all the livenses removed, and faced a painful fate. Rather than die, they thought: "What if we make our own D&D 3.5 clone and just keep publishing material for our own clone?" And they created Pathfinder, which is very much like Dungeons and Dragons 3.5, and kept pumping out materials, and Pathfinder overtook Dungeons and Dragons 4.

That said I think the 3.5 iteration of the game and their clones suck hard.

Thankfully, Ponyfinder is compatible with DUngeons and Dragons 5 :-P

That is too long for a SLMR tagline, but I just saved it for multimail to
    use. :)
