  • Castle COLDDRAKE Upgrade

    Friends,

    Well, it seems that I made a few mistakes in updating the documentation for this new release. The upgrade to 2.0a will require an additional process. In addition to copying the archive and overwriting the current installation you will need to take two additional steps:

    In the QWKIGMxx directory:
    1) rename QWKIGM1.DAT (if it exists) to QWKIGM.DAT (remove the '1').
    2) delete all other QWKIGM?.DAT files from the CCIGMxx directory.

    Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. It has been a really long time since I even looked at this code so I forgot that earlier versions used numbered QWKIGM.DAT files while the newer versions use a single file.

    I encourage you to spend some time in COLDDRAKE and explore. There are
    loads of hidden clues and things to find. Finding the clues opens
    additional dialog with the NPCs. There are well over 1k lines of text in
    that little game!

    I encourage you to spend some time in COLDDRAKE and explore. There are loads of hidden clues and things to find. Finding the clues opens additional dialog with the NPCs. There are well over 1k lines of text in that little game!

    I can totally vouch for it. You can spend a ton of time in it doing all sorts of things. It's like a whole separate game.

    Hence why I enforce IGM checks in the InterLORD game. To keep things even.

    COLDDRAKE does offer things that will advance you faster. But those things
    are available to all. It was playtested on many BBSs with many dozens of
    units sold. I think that you will find it interesting and something you will enjoy playing. Of course, I'm just a little biased. But you are correct, there is ALOT of garbage out there. I'm currently reviewing some of our old IGMS as well as some new ones to help with recommendations for the league.

    i was looking through the 25 year old code, marveling at the encrypted
    overlays that were required due to the sheer amount of text in the igm. I thought to myself, 'ya know, I was pretty good at this shit at 25!' Then reality slapped my upside the noggin'. Yeah, dumbass, now you cant even get blackjack working right!

    Alright. I know I'm a little late to the game here... (no pun intended) I finally have Castle Colddrake installed on the Lord game. There is a lot of stuff to do in there. I like it! :) I even thought some of the jokes were funny...

    I am about to approve the other IGMs stizzed has worked on. Well written
    IGMs tend to make the experience of playing LORD that much better.
    Thankfully he has put some great work into his.

    Thanks. While many IGMs seem to be thrown together over a weekend I can promise you that we worked on that one for three months before even making it available to beta testers. There are lots of 'hidden' options and controls that you only learn through playing.
