The book (much like book 7, Persepolis Rising) feel drawn out. It feels like
they are checking the couch cushions for material to keep the series going.
It could just be me, but the first 4 or 5 books were page turners and these
last few were a slog to get through.

I'm not sure how many pages were in book eight but I came away from it feeling l ike not too much happened (except for three fairly significant things). Must ha ve been a fair bit of filler.
Have you read any of the novellas that fill in a lot of the back story? I have gotten through about 4 or 5 of them. Great filler and character
I think I may have done, but I'd have to go back and check. I've read
so many b ooks in the past few years that a lot of them blend together.
