I'm looking for suggestions on what to read next. I have gone through the Expanse series and wouldn't mind picking up another space opera.
No recommendations here, sorry, but...have you seen the show? I love the showand am curious to compare the two.
Yes I have (funny enough, it's shot on a sound stage right next to my wife's office along with the Boys. She sees the various actors at coffee shops and lunch joints near by all the time).
The TV show is very close to the canon. Each season is roughly one book
in the series. They do leave some stuff out as even 8-10 episodes really isn't enough to cover one of the books but they are pretty dead on.
The two writers are in creative control of the show, that is probably
why it's as close as it is.
It also has a rabid fan base. When SyFy decided to cancel it after a few seasons, the campaign to save it from fan quickly gained traction and Amazon stepped in to pick it up. According to reviews and views, they don't regret it at all.
Have you seen that one chick who plays Camina Drummer? Let me know, I'm pretty sure I can talk my fiancee into a threesome with her if she's down.Tell her I'm a moderately handsome dad-bod thousandaire. Thanks.

Any takers?
The Foundation Trilogy (Asimov)
Dune (Herbert)
Another that I've not read but want to is: Ender's Game.
I have pretty much chewed through all of the classics and best sellers. I'mlooking for some hidden gem that someone has discovered.
There is a trilogy that my wife just finished. She said it was really good. Ihaven't read them yet...

I have read all three and of those 3 I read Asimov and Ender's at
least every 2 years. Easily my favorites as well.

Hard to say without knowing what you've already read..... but if
somehow you've not read my personal two (old skool) favorites:
The Foundation Trilogy (Asimov)
Dune (Herbert)
Another that I've not read but want to is: Ender's Game.
... If it walks out of your refrigerator, let it go.
Unfortunately she just got married sometime last year but I will mention your offer next time I talk to her, lol.

artificially for one show doesn't feel like the right move. I'd be fearful of something happening there like what happened to the History channel when they started showcasing a bunch of crowd pleaser bullshit. I happen to be a history nerd lol.
Vikings was a great show! It kinda fell apart after Ragnar left, but it has some great seasons.

I feel like I mostly read non-fiction these days, but the last fiction book I read was Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan. Enjoyed it enough to circle back and watch the TV adaption (which I enjoyed a lot less, but still liked) as well as get the next book in the series. Very
"cyberpunk" but leaning more towards the sci-fi end of the spectrum.
I really don't understand why cable networks like Syfy, History, Discovery, even try to make big-budget series. They always end up cancelling them because the series doesn't fit their "vision" of the network -- which is low budget filler between commercials. The
big-budget stuff belongs on Netflix, HBO, etc.
With the state of the world reading non-fiction just makes me sad,
unless of course it has nothing todo with anything happening in modern times.
BSG's budget for it's time was unheard of, even on something like HBO.
I think after they rebranded from SciFi to SyFy they slashed all original programming, which sucked.
Most of my non-fiction reading has been related to computing history
for the past several years, so that fits the bill nicely. :)
Yes, the Scifi channel around BSG time was great. Lots of cool stuff there. Then they started showing Wrestling and it all fell apart. All the channels eventually revert to the lowest common denominator. There
is no money to be made in "niche" programming. Even Netflix quickly cancels anything niche when it doesn't get an immediate audience.
There is still tons of high quality content out there. The streaming
wars will probably provide enough thirst for programming that niche
stuff will get made for now. But eventually there will be
consolidation, and they'll start cutting it all again.
We all have to fight insomnia at some point in our lives.
Ha! It's great stuff, and you know it. :)
Have you read "Where Wizards Stay Up Late"? Great book about Darpanet
and later on, The Internet's coming to be.
I've got a copy of the audiobook but haven't got around to listening to ityet. This whole "work from home" shit has really cut into my music/podcast/audiobook time something vicious. :/

Really. I find it the complete opposite. I seem to consume much more
audio when working from home. My airpods are in my ears almost all the time. When not on Zoom or some other horrific video meeting system, i'm listening to podcasts or audiobooks.
I hear you there! For some reason I only ever listen to podcasts when
I'm driving. I've tried listening to them at work or in the evenings
and for some reason I just can't pay attention outside of the car.
Wait... you actually have time in your workday that you're not in lame meetings?! :)
Seriously, I do listen to music or watch something dumb on YouTube in the background sometimes while working, particularly if I'm deep into some documentation, configuration, or scripting, but the rest of the time I'm typically too distracted by what I'm working on to listen to something thatrequires more attention like a podcast or an audiobook. Maybe you're justbetter at multitasking than I am. :)
