I am feeling a bit of withdrawal from SoIaF/Game of Thrones. No more
GoT on TV, a long ass wait for the next book in the series and I just
finally finished up The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson (some
    dense ass shit).

I am in the need for some new Fantasy recommendations to get into.
    Anyone have any?

I'll assume you're already read Tolkien's Lord of the Rings
trilogy... If not then stop what you're doing and go get it.

One of my other all time favorites is "The Riftwar Saga" by
    Raymond Feist. Fantastic.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Riftwar_Saga

Another, longer series, that is a bit "dark" that I've always
loved is "The Cronicles of Thomas Covenant". It's a 10-book
series, but the last four were added on much later than the first
six, and are not really needed, in my opinion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chronicles_of_Thomas_Covenant

This last one I'd probably put into the "Sci-Fi" category more
than the Fantasy category, but it's award-winning stuff from Isaac
Asimov: The Foundation Trilogy. It is now seven books, but the
original three were called Foundation, Foundation and Empire, and
Second Foundation. He added two "prequels" and two "sequels" much
later on, but they're not nearly as good and can be skipped. This
series and the LOTR series are the top two of all time in my
    opinion.

    You are correct!

This looks interesting. I Will add that one to the list.

I have read the first 2, I kinda of drifted off of it.

It has been a series that I re-read yearly.

I also re-read stuff from the Shannara series. I usually re-read one of the trilogies every year.

I can also highly recommend the Expanse series. The TV adaptation is well
done and stays true to the books.

Yeah, although it is good, it is a series that can have that
effect on people. I drifted/quit once and then years later tried
it again and made it through. Pretty decent stuff, for me it was
very thought-provoking and seemed very realistic for "fantasy".

This last one I'd probably put into the "Sci-Fi" category more
than the Fantasy category, but it's award-winning stuff from Isaac

Wow, nice! I've read it probably three or four times, and will
read it again, no doubt. Yearly is too frequent for me though. I
think next time I will do all seven books instead of just the
    original trilogy.

I also re-read stuff from the Shannara series. I usually re-read
one of the trilogies every year.

I've read some of that series but it's a little foggy. I think
this is one that I drifted away from. Will probably give it
    another go eventually.

I can also highly recommend the Expanse series. The TV adaptation
is well done and stays true to the books.

I haven't read the books, but did watch most of the first season
of the TV adaptation and thought it was excellent. Then I drifted
away... I'm easily distracted sometimes. :-)

It has a close place to my heart as it was the first book I ever read in the Fantasy realm that turned my on to wonderful stories.

I hear ya. It was originally conceived as an RPG. One of the two guys who writes it use to be George R.R. Martin's editor. Martin had suggested that since they had so much backstory written why not turn them into books.

That's cool. I have to *make* time for myself in order to read,
and don't always succeed. I'd like to read more than I do, and I
    go in cycles on that.

I heard a rumor there is a fan forum somewhere that he frequents where a special group of users are ghostwriting it for him. Who knows if that's true.

He did post on his blog at the start of lockdown, that he was writing more, but now he's back to pushing reissues of the old books and talking about football. I doubt it will ever come out. Sad....

I have not ever finished the last ones that are published. There is no point. The dude is gonna die of some burger induced heard-attack, so what is the point in reading a half-sinished series?

There are lots of finished series already to pick up.

Nah, don't care anymore. I read all of the books, but now it's been so long that I don't remember much. I'd have to re-read them or at least read a really long summary in order to get back into it, and I don't think I can be bothered.

I enjoyed his Stormlight series. The Way of Kings was a great read. He is much like Martin where the stories bounces around from different characters point of view.

Definitely in the Epic Fantasy column.
