• I hate Cisco

From Netsurge@77:77/5 to All on Sun Feb 16 02:20:18 2020
I just spent the past 11 hours upgrade our Call Manager, CUC, replacing
4 old 2800 Cisco Voice gateways with newer 4300 Cisco gateways with 250
users in total across 4 cities in Canada. I spent almost 7 or those 11
hours on a TAC call to work out kinks on an incredibly over complicated
    VOIP system.

I am a CCIE and I absolutely hate Cisco and their bloated ass bullshit. Instead of rolling out new CMs and CUCs and spending 6 figures to do
so, I could have done all of this and more with an Asterisk setup.

Alright, I am done my rant. For now.

[A repost of a lost message]

I can relate, although not because I've ever used their hardware/software directly. I worked for Cisco for a time just writing tools to support their testing infrastructure. It was the perfect example of why working for large companies is a nightmare to get anything done.

One of the upsides was I actually for a time worked in Sector 7G and I'm not even making this up! I made sure to take a picture and everything because
man, talk about a fringe benefit. :D

I only wish I had the title of Safety Inspector, but I was just lowly
    software developer. :)

Their closed environment is what drives me nuts. You end up being married to their entire eco-system because for the most part all of their technology is closed source. Instead of supporting open technologies that would allow other manufactures hardware to play nice with theirs, they force you to only buy theirs. It's a cabal if you ask me.

I'm sure you know you're not alone in this. The web security appliances that run on IronPort are also a lot of fun. Oh you want shell access to, you know, troubleshoot your own system? Nope! Gotta call TAC and turn on the VPN so they can remote into your appliance and flip some bits. Good times...

God forbid you pay $30,000 for something and you get to use it. It's like buying a car but when you need to drive it you have to allow someone in your car to bring a steering wheel and then you have to tell them how to operate
    it!

Lol! This is all to funny! I was one test away from having my CCNP and failed the test twice coming in around 83% on the test. I took it to close to my expiration date.

I held papers with Cisco for about 15 years, and to be honest, I hate Cisco tests!

Also, to add to your VoIP frustration. I was rolling out some FTDv and surprised how many basic features are missing and require FMC to enable features and some don't even exist!

Cisco, pisses me off! I work as a network technician for a fairly big
company and I'm at a point in my career now, if the papers are not necessary I'm not going through their stupid ass f****** tests anymore! They can eat sh**!

Oh shit. Don't get me started. FTD+FMC is particularly shitty. Getting better with every release without a doubt, but man, it was the god awful poster
child for the downsides of pushing out a "minimal viable product" missing
basic features and filled with insane bugs. If you search for FTD much on Google you'll find a huge, hilarious thread on Reddit where people talk about their experiences with it. Then again, Cisco has a pretty shit track record with software, and with almost all of their products seeming to move to
similar development methodologies, maybe dealing with this shit is going to be every day life as a Cisco customer going forward.
