• Sakra (2023)

We watched Donnie Yen's 'Sakra' last night. If you're into over-the-top
'wuxia' martial arts movies with staggering amounts of wire-fu, it'll be
right up your ally. The story is probably a 4/10, but let's face it, for most kung-fu movies, you don't go for the story, you go for the action, which in this case was a 10/10. :)

Donnie's movies are a mixed bag, but Donnie himself never fails to deliver. I take notice and will place this one on my to-watch list.

Yeah, I like the first Ip Man movie quite a lot. I don't think this is quite that good, mostly because of the story, but it's as good if not better than
the follow-up Ip Man movies. Those were fun, but not as good as the first.

Well, Ip Man II and III you didn't watch for the plot. I liked their fights better. The combat with Twister in Ip Man II was quite good. The combat with Tyson was ok and the final combat of Ip Man III was also interesting and also loaded with wuxia tropes. You see, the only way to decide who is studying the original form of the arts is to have them fight, and who wins is right XD

BTW, am I the only one who always thinks Ip Man is short for Internet Protocol Man?

Also, while I liked Ip Man I a lot, I think he got rid of the Final Karate Boss too easily. He should have suffered much more.

I can see that. Like I said, I liked the first one more because of the story, which I think was really well fleshed out, not so much because of the action. As someone else mentioned, the fights in the other ones are probably stronger. The action in Sakra is really good, if not (as you'd probably expect) a
little over-the-top (in a good way).

I'm intrigued by Wing Chun and think they did a great job with the
scenery - considering they're 4 different period pieces covering many
    years.

The downtown San Francisco chinatown stage was particularly interesting,
having visited the intersection at the Chinatoewn gates it was supposed
    to represent.
