Last night on Disney+ using the Star channel I watched the 1996 film The Rock.

It starred an angry Ed Harris who was the bad guy, a young Nicolas Cage as a FBI dude who knows about chemical weapons, Sean Connery as the ex British secret agent who managed to escape from 'The Rock' in the 60s, and John Spencer has a FBI agent with 'history' with Connery's character.

It's a typical Jerry Bruckheimer / Don Simpson action flick, lots of chase scenes, explosions and more. What I found kind of funny was the soundtrack has Hans Zimmer involved with it. Most of the time I thought I was listening to the Pirates of the Caribbean score :)

The movie gets a 6/10 for me. It has not aged overly well but still a reasonable watch.

I feel the other way. When I watch Pirates of the Carebbiean I feel like I am watching The Rock.

    The Rock is awesome.

    That sounds horrible :-S

I am not a big fan of Johnny Depp but it is hard to picture somebody else as Sparrow. Proposing Connery is just like
proposing Boris Karloff or Christopher Lee. You would get an awesome performance but the character would not be the same.

Yep, especially given he's dead... the performance would be rather flat.

Aww. I didn't actually know that. I guess no one lives forever.

Quite the opposite from the Highlander movie.

Same!! I guess I remember, now, something in the news to that effect - but it didn't sit with me that the rock, or Sean anyway, is gone. Dang.

I have to spin up The Rock, or Con Air, soon.

Here is a little piece of conspiracy for you: Sean Connery's character is actually James Bond (thus the last time Connery played James Bond) There are quite a few websites your can head down the rabbit hole if your interested. Cheers.

I think I watched a doco saying this character was based on bond, but clearly it's not named as such, just hinted at.
