• What you watching lately?

    Heya all,

Recently I set up my TV with Kodi and also hooked it up to my NAS which is running SAMBA and NFS (Samba for my PS2 which I recently set up with
FreeMcBoot that lets me run games over SMB since the drive is dead on it) - I've put on a few shows and what not that I got laying around like:

    - Aqua Teen Hunger Force
    - Love Hina
    - Roseanne
    - Home Improvement
    - Twister (1996)
    - Muppets from Space

I've been watching a lot of Roseanne and Home Improvement since I've been craving shows from my childhood (Parents tended to watch a lot of shows from the 80s and 90s in the house) - what all you watching lately?

Recently I set up my TV with Kodi and also hooked it up to my NAS which

We have a similar setup with an Apple TV and an app called Infuse. A few years back I spent way too much time ripping all of my DVDs (movies & TV seasons) which ended up on the NAS. Now with Infuse we can browse everything on the NAS and watch whatever we like. Though a lot of the steaming services has a lot of these same shows, all of the DVDs I bought back in the day are SD and some of the shows are available in HD on the steaming services.

I've put on a few shows and what not that I got laying around like:

    - Roseanne

Have you watched the new seasons of Roseanne (now The Conners)? It has the same look & feel to it, with a few more modern plots thrown in. It's good for a chuckle or two.

I've been watching a lot of Roseanne and Home Improvement since I've been craving shows from my childhood (Parents tended to watch a lot of shows from the 80s and 90s in the house) - what all you watching lately?

I've been re-watching The Golden Girls recently as I was in a nostalgic mood.

There are few shows that will get me to burst out laughing like that show does, some of the things that comes out of Sophia's mouth are enough to still make me blush!

New watches - Handmaid's Tale. It's dark, can't watch more than 1 or 2 in a row. The Chair, interesting dramedy about a small college.

Want to watch - The Man in the High Castle. I've got a lot of catching up to do.

    Waiting for - Yellowstone

Done with - The Walking Dead. I burned out on it this season, will likely watch the finale and that's it.

So I'm a bit older than you, but your statement is correct.

I craved those shows that I used to run home from school and beg my parents to let me watch.

    Six Million Dollar Man/Bionic Woman,
    Happy Days
    Get Smart
    Flintstones
    Goodies
    My Favourite Martian
    Land of the Giants
    Fawlty Towers
Buck Rogers and the 25st Century

    and many more.

I have found pretty good copies of most of them, except the Goodie which are bad (and some very bad) VHS copies.

I'm trying to get my kids into them (which really is my plan so that I can watch them again) - with varying levels of success :(

The closest I ever got was being able to walk onto a couple of sets back in the mid-80s. I visited a friend who worked in casting at the time.

Being on the set you'd seen on TV was a kick.

I also got to be an audience member on a game show, another singular experience of my time in LA.

It ended with staying with friends and watching an advance copy of "the
pilot for a TV show you'll hear about in a couple of months". That was Twin Peaks.

I think we need to VPN together all of our NASes and watch each other's content.

At my work in 2005, I managed the corporate office server room. There was a white SuperMicro server that was always hammering the drive lights. I didn't have it on my elevations, it didn't allow my admin login, and it sat in that space in the back of my mind where things that bother you go.

I thought about doing a scream test (unplug it and see who screams) but thought it might be part of the data warehouse, and thought better of it.

One day I ran a packet sniffer against it and saw that it was sharing lots
of files via CIFS. One of the engineers saw me sniffing around and let me
    into the circle.

It was the shared, invite-only MP3 server. We had tens of thousands of MP3s, all curated and donated by a handful of people.

I wonder what happened to it when the company closed shop.

There's a Canadian version of this show called "You Gotta Eat Here!" that we both enjoy. Some of the places they feature are right here in my own city while others are clear on the other side of the county.

We've actually written down some of the places featured and gone to them, they're places we wouldn't have found otherwise. One of the ones here in my city (Chicago Style Pizza) exploded in popularity after the episode aired, you can't really eat-in there anymore as they're so busy, but we usually ordered it for take-out anyway.

Another good show we like is called Carnival Eats where a hyperactive dude goes around to local fairs and shows off all kinds of yummy & not-good-for-you kind of food. Once covid is over, I'd like to go visit some of these fairs & try some if it out.

I've been watching a lot of Roseanne and Home Improvement since I've
been craving shows from my childhood (Parents tended to watch a lot of shows from the 80s and 90s in the house) - what all you watching
    lately?

    The Twilight Zone (original series)
    The Office (US)
    Toon in With Me
    Doc Martin (first season)
    Last of the Summer Wine
    Nora From Queens (current season)
What We Do In The Shadows (current)
    Archer (current)

I have been wanting to get out my Night Gallery DVD set and watch some of
those again but have not yet got around to it.

Checking my PBS schedule, it looks like the following two shows are about
to come back out with new seasons, and I plan to be watching:

    Call the Midwife
    Granchester

That's actually pretty cool! Did the episode air? Do you
    know which episode it was?

They weren't producing original episodes. This was at MGM-
Disney. Open to the public. This one particular studio was
designed to demonstrate how a sitcom might be put together and
edited even when actors are not in the same studio. They used
genuine Golden Girls episodes to work with.

In my case, the demo was "live" in the sense that people saw
the splicing results immediately. The lines were funny. It was
cool to get a real audience laugh-reaction after saying my
lines. Ad lib wasn't discouraged. The idea was to have fun with
it. I think a dramatic pause or a roll of my eyes or a personal
    expression brought some laughs too.

Yeah.. it would have been nice to have a copy of that.

I'd love for there to be more tech-oriented comedies
like Dilbert (although It's more business comedy than anything) - I remember there being one from the UK that ran in the late 2000s and early 2010s, but I can't recall the name.

You may be referring to The IT Crowd, a classic. They got a lot of
things right, from Roy's Mantra ("Hello, IT, have you tried turning it off and on again?") to the set dressing of the IT office (looked almost exactly like the "batcave" at a previous employer) and the relationship manager who doesn't know computers - at all.

The guy who did Black Mirror did a show in the mid 2000s called "Nathan Barley" that's a nice parody of the current internet and influencer culture - done in the early 2000s. Reminds me of San Francisco during
    the first dot- com bubble.

I'll have to give a look at them both - Thanks for the help!

It's been a struggle lately finding stuff I like since Mandoalorian is on hiatus, Orville won't be back till 2022, and Superman and Lois just wrapped for their first season. And I just saw a new short for Letterkenny, so hopefully Season 10 will be coming soon. But as of the last few weeks?

Major Dad from the late 90s with Gerald McRaneny (sp?) on Netflix.

I've been feeling nostalgic and I haven't seen as many 80's shows on Netflix. If anyone knows of any, let me know!

If you have access to Apple TV+ check out a new series that just premiered on Friday called Foundation. The first two episodes have already been released and the 3rd comes out on the 1st.

    Here's the trailer:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4QYV5GTz7c

"The fate of an entire galaxy rests on the beliefs of Dr. Hari Seldon. Will his conviction save humanity or doom it?

Based on the award-winning novels by Isaac Asimov, Foundation chronicles a band of exiles on their monumental journey to save humanity and rebuild civilization amid the fall of the Galactic Empire."

Yup, enough to put a smile on your face and a clog in your

Up until about a week ago, there was a truck in town that was
selling Beaver Tails. Sure, they were "interesting" the first
time I tried one decades ago when I was skating on the canal in
Ottawa. But I've never had another one since.

I'm reminded of a quote from Big Bang Theory where
Sheldon's mother was giving advice to Penny:

"You take notes, darling. The real way to get a man is with
melted cheese and cream of mushroom soup; he'll die at 50,
but his love will be true."

Is it the mushroom or the cheese that's supposed to kill ya? A
healthy high-fat low-carb eating plan does not shy away from
    cheese.

No, this was a long time ago - weeks before the premiere of the original series and before anyone knew about it - that's what made watching it
    special.
