    Hello All,

Excluding any antique car owners out there, what is the oldest
    car you ever owned?

My 2007 Rav4 is 14yrs this year. Apparently there is a lot of
corrosion in the underbody by now. I regret that I never
bothered with undercoat treatment. Other than that, it only has
    111,164km on it.

I leased it originally. Then in 2012 I bought out the lease.

Just wondering what is the norm in terms of max age of vehicle
    amongst the drivers here.

That depends on what is now considered an antique...

I stick with a vehicle until it really starts to cost more money to operate than it's worth.

That's not many miles. I am all for getting all the miles out I can after I have paid for a car. After a while an older car can cost more money and down time that it's worth though, so it's a judgement call when it should be replaced.

Oldest car I managed to keep in working order was a Ford Orion from the 89. It lasted 24 years.

My hay provider has a tractor that is between 50 and 60 years old, for the record. He still uses it quite a lot.

I just finished paying a $3500 (after tax) bill for suspension
work. But I never had any large bills for the 10 years prior.
I just did oil changes, and winter/summer tire swaps.

But my steel wheels also look like crap with heavy corrosion.
That would be roughly +$800 with new all-season tires. I don't
think my rav4 needs the luxury of summer/winter tire swaps
anymore. I hope that after I get undercoat done going
forward, that I could still get 3 more years out of my vehicle
    - or long enough to pay off the $3500 +$800 with credit card,
quickly, and enjoy a few years debt-free driving for a while.

I only noticed corrosion started along the lower edges of ONE

Yeah.. There is point when repairs seem to be more frequent

Body is in great shape. There are some areas where the paint is a bit faded, but nothing serious. Never had it undercoated. We live in the high desert, so there isn't much moisture to cause any issues.

It does need a complete brake job. I've just been to lazy... I mean 'busy' to find time to work on it. ;)

I actually have the new rotors and pads to put on. They've been in the boxes in the garage for about 9 months already... :)

Yeah.. There is point when repairs seem to be more frequent
than long stretches of hassle-free driving.

That's why I had finally sold my 1978 Ford Bronco in 2015. It was at the point where it wasn't reliable as an every-day driver. It was missing the fan shroud, so it had a tendency to overheat if I got stuck in traffic.

2004 Toyota Sienna mini van. My daughter is driving it now. It has

My current car is a 2016 Subaru Outback.

My first car was a yellow Ford Pinto - not sure of the model year. 1970-something? It was a clunker but it was mine and that was all that mattered. It was nice to have my own "wheels." :-)

    Hallo Ogg,

Last year, I sold my first car, a Citroen C3 which I bought new in 2007,
so I had it for 13 years.
It was in the age where many things started to break. I had some things
fixed but the list of things that should be fixed "in the next few years"
got longer and longer, so I decided that a new (used) car would probably
be cheaper (and more reliable) in the long run.

    And for ~3 years, from 2014-2017, I've owned a Citroen 2CV from 1989 where
I fixed and updated some things during that time.

    Regards,

My daily driver is a 2000 dodge caravan. Almost no metal left on the
body it's mostly duct tape I spray paint to match the colour so I don't
get pulled over. Just has 191,000km on it still has WORKING A/C!!!!

Andrea's car is our "new one" 2012 Hyundai accent has I think 194,000

so won't look good much longer.

It was replaced with a old 1974 Buick 225, which gave way to a Norton
Commando and an International Scout, which the Scout gave way to F-150
pickup. Had Chevy Citation right before I moved.

The Norton went into storage as I moved to Europe where I had a Citroen 2CV, a Citroen CX2400, a Morris Traveller, a Ford Sierra Estate, a Passat Estate, a Vanden Plas Princess (the little one), a R-16, an Mini Clubman, my first Panhard PL-17, and Landrover
Series II=a over the next decade.

On return stateside I found the Norton had been sold out of storage (nasty family scene there) and bought a new Ford Tarus and an older Mustange for the wife. Mustange gave way to a Volvo 740 wagon and I changed my daily every three years +/- going through a Sable Wagon, Aerostar and Windstars, and then the current series of SUVs. Wife had another Volvo Wagon and now drive a
    Volvo C-30.

Always had one or more extra cars. Bristol 408 Mk II, another Morris, lots
of Panhards and Citroens, a couple Peugeots, a Merkur XR4Ti with Cosworth upgrades, and a Pinzgauer.

Oldest daily drivers were the '56 Dodge Cornet in the mid-70's followed by a '61 Panhard PL-17 in England in the mid-'80s

Current daily driver is an SUV delivered 6 weeks ago, as I change them out every 75-90,000 miles. Wife loves her little '13 Volvo C-30. I do have a
'04 Chevy 2500HD pickup for utility use.

Have some non-daily driver cars, including "family cars" for the students in our family.

Norton that was sold was replaced iwth a placeholder Kawasaki 750 2-stroke, other Nortons, a Laverda Jota, a BMW K100LT, an old Moto Guzzi, a
turbocharged Harley V-Rod and a Harley Pan America. Only the Harley's and
    the Moto Guzzi are current.

I keep telling myself that I need to shed more of the extras.

This Friday I am lending out the Pinzgauer 701m for a charity run, as I can't be there but the organizers asked.

When I was growing up we had a '72 (or there about) Nova. It had a 3 in the tree. It was nothing special but a good reliable car.

My uncle also had a Nova, it was special. There was no indication on the body but it was an SS. It looked and sounded like any other car until you reved it up and heard the growl.

The track bars and big fat tires kind of gave it away though. :)

I had an 87 van years ago. After a while the speedometer broke. I replaced it a few times and gave up on it. It had 550,000 Km then and it was still running great when I sold it along with the route it was doing a couple years later.

The Olds was a solid performer though. Velour seats, power

It gradually developed an increasing leak around the oil pan,
but the repair would have required removing the engine! It
leaked about 1 litre per month.

It also refused to start easily when the outdoor temp was

But I drove it for about 5 or 6 more years before I traded it
in for $200 on a lease for a new Rav4.

Mine was 2nd hand as well. When I got my license I was told that I *had*
to buy my mom's car so she could get a different one. I'd rather have purchased my dad's 65 Mustang though!

Mine had the infamous 350 Rocket engine with a 2bbl carb. I hated it after a couple of years... had my eye on a 77 firebird just like the one that was in the Rockford Files tv show. I'd bring it on top of a mountain road, get it up to fast but safe speed and drop it in low to try to kill something - tranny or engine but no go!

Those cars were tanks but reliable... I'd compare them to a poor man's caddy
    at the time.

yrs, atleast. But I never thought that 8+ yrs would be my

The mechanical lever (right along the cabin floor) that pulls
on a cable to open the door for the gas tank corroded right
off. I've been using a pair of pliers to grab what little that
is left to clamp on to.

It was in the age where many things started to break. I had
some things fixed but the list of things that should be
fixed "in the next few years" got longer and longer, so I
decided that a new (used) car would probably be cheaper
(and more reliable) in the long run.

I've been pretty lucky, I guess. I've had nothing major at
all, except now: the rear suspension. I had the rotors
replaced once before though, at $90x4 just for the parts, at
about 8 years into its life. The original battery lasted 10
    years!

    And for ~3 years, from 2014-2017, I've owned a Citroen 2CV
from 1989 where I fixed and updated some things during that
    time.

That 2CV looks like a funky oversized Volkswagen beetle. :D

Yes, now I also know that and with my current car (Smart 453 cabrio), I
will do my best to make it last very long.

That's quite a long time! The one in my C3 didn't last that long and as my Smart features a start-stop system, this one definitely won't last that
    long.

Yep :) It's a quite simple and quirky car. One of the last ones where you could start it using a hand crank :)

I've drive a handful of Opel models, which ranged from Chevette whips to autobahn machines.

Wildest was a special Kadette done for the Kripo, which on the 'bahn was in
the 220 kph plus range. Sleeper. as it looked stock but was far from it.

One of my bosses had a Rekord that went reasonably well.

In the UK we had company Vauxhauls which were Opels rebranded. The big Omega was reasonable.

Excluding any antique car owners out there, what is the oldest
    car you ever owned?

My 2007 Rav4 is 14yrs this year. Apparently there is a lot of
corrosion in the underbody by now. I regret that I never
bothered with undercoat treatment. Other than that, it only has
    111,164km on it.

My car is over 20 years old (2001). Had it since 2010.

233000. :) And winter, while not snoey, can be damp. Summer is dry and dusty.
Probably a bit better here, but coastal areas have a lot of salt in the air.

I supposed they would all be considered antiques now but in the past I have owned a '65 Chevy Stepside, 72 Plymouth Duster and a '76 Chevy Camaro. All of which I now deeply regret ever having sold. The things you learn as you get older...

Currently driving my most recent car, a 2012 Dodge Challenger. 247k miles on it. Had to get a catalytic converter replaced back in December and the parts guy asked me what the heck I was going to do when the engine finally quit. Told him I would sink a new/used engine in it. Not planning on getting rid of this one anytime soon.

I wish I could have kept some of them especially the Hemi Charger. When I was growing up in the late 70's we have a street here called Woodward Ave. Cars used to cruise (and race) in about a 5 mile loop. That stopped around 1981,82 but now they have a sanctioned cruise in August where you can see thousands of cars cruising Woodward on Saturday in August (and about a week before!) http://www.woodwarddreamcruise.com
