• Tens of thousands of C64 games...

It's certainly not the same as playing live on your own C64 but it's certainly not a bad idea to get a taste of the games again. :)

If you download the archive get a pi floppy emulator (or build one) then plug it in to your C64 you can just play all these game on the C64.

An interesting note. I am currently considering whether to buy a C64 / 128 again. That will definitely be a lot of fun and enjoyment.

On the other hand, it would be yet another "time-consuming" project. (ø_ø)

I would suggest going c128 - its c64 mode is 99.9% perfect - and you CAN do a lot more with it; that being said, even tho I COULD do m0re with it, I always just booted right into 64 mode and never DID the c128 stuffs. :P

I think they look cooler, too - bonus; c128 D.

Commodore is back in business, they are selling the Ultimate Commodore, it is a FPGA C64 which will run everything from back in the day with no issues, you can plug in a USB stick and run any game that is in .d64 format (in other words old 1541 images). The new features make it a nice addition I believe it will go up to 64mhz, built in 1541,71,81 support through disk images, and a quasi mode (in my opinion) Hard drive. WiFi, Swiftlink (not fully compatible with all BBS programs) and the list goes on. www.commodore.net will get you all of the info.. It's not too cheap but the base model will cost you a little more then a used 128 on sneezebay!

Its not that bad. If your short on time just buy the Pi hat version and call it a day. The cable plugs right in and bam. even emulates the sound of the disk. You can have it go at full speed or emulate floppy speed. Some games needed the slower speed to funtion correctly.

    That's why I like my x16-commander.

It's like C64 but without C64 and with all new possibilities to discover and way faster. Like 8-Bit Amiga 500 or sth.

If I want C64 experience I have C64-MAXI and Vice on PC. I still consider Ultimate so I could have carts but yeah.. there are options for C64 compatible setup that are countless.

Now what's above it sometimes requires forgetting about the past.

x16 is hard bet that D.Murray and K.Williams did, equal number of fans and enemies of the project, but if you want 8-bit on steroids I really like x16 very much!

And that as I wrote in previous post is tempting for a fan who would like to stay connected to the past and see some options for retro-defined future as a hobby.
