I'd be curious to know more, just bought an Ooma device for my mother, so far it seems pretty nice. Don't know what codec it's using, or whether you can choose.

Depending on what gadget you buy from them, there are some that have a
setting to set the line for "fax." That also makes me curious how well it might work for other data connections.
