So I just found my favourite MUD from 33 years ago has had something of a ressurection. Shattered World, shattered.org 23. For the last something like
8 months or so, its been somewhat dead, faulty.. So it was nice to drop in
and see things looking up and working.

I actually used this thing before I started using BBS. Would jump on the deadly treadly and wheel over to the Monash Uni campus and play all night,
well till they shut the public room.. ~11:30pm or so. Blast from the past.

I set up a server for friends to run a MUD on. I never got immersed into a MUD, but i did play EverQuest and World of Warcraft up to level 20 before i "called it good."

What do you use for your client? Plain old telnet? Tinyfugue?

Once upon a time just a now unknown telnet client, a bit later kermit over local network as it gave the possibility of aliases from memory. Later a variety of terminal software while dialup was possible. More recently putty, and "Portal" using an actual client is pretty recent for me though.

got plenty of foibles, weird script language not related to anything, and a borland database engine back end which likes to eat itself from time to time.

i am still developing a mud when i have some spare time for it.
it is in hungarian, never seen by anyone, i have started the development in 2012. :)

Cool! I enjoyed reading your history with different clients. Do i understand correctly that you had some kind of macros running in kermit?

Portal looks like it has a nice feature set. I like the automapper, graph paper, status bars, and toolbars.

I'll have to check out shattered one of these days.

The local Kermit install at the Uni had the facility for aliases more than macros... although you could stack commands into the alias... it also had the foible that for some reason it tended to introduce more lag, than a regular telnet client.
