This was the second computer we had in our house and as kids we used it daily to play and tinker. I recall we had a speech synthesis chip and could make it talk with a rather British accent :)
Lots of hours playing Elite and other games. It was a cool setup.
Nice, I would love to get my hands on some computers only available outside of the US sometime. While we had some great computers, it seems there are so many great alternatives.

Yes, i got myself a BBC Micro for my Exhibition, never use to play with one of these, but they where big thing in th 80's. The BBC did the
right thing i would habe loved if our ORF in Austria would have done the same here.
But the Computer is really a nice thing and yes ELITE is WOW.

I guess others outside of the USA feel the same way too :)
I did get to play with TRS-80 at high school and the Apple IIe back in
the day... they were cool too.
a shame it didn't have much more of an international market, because
if it did, it would have likely given the C64 a run for its money.
I could envisage a Model C which has 64k RAM as standard. BBC Basic
was a triumph, besting Microsoft BASIC (which is a huge call!).
I grew up in the UK, and whilst I had a ZX spectrum at
home, really the BBC ran rings around the Speccy. The model
B specifically was a triumph.

contemporary 8-bits at the time all in one machine. I love the Apple ][, but the beeb was superior in all ways, specifically graphics and sound
I would dearly love to have a BBC back in my collection. Getting them out here in NZ is pretty tricky though these days unfortunately.
A couple weeks ago I "discovered" a docudrama called Micro Men.
I believe that the ZX Spectrum made a cameo appearance.

.... And yes, halt and catch fire is good, especially season 1. It
started getting a bit silly in s2/s3 but still watchable.
I feel the same way about getting a Speak N Spell that works... I have
one (from my childhood) but the power supply I think failed on the board and I have no way of knowing how to repair it... not really the skills
to do so. :(

Theres a lot of info out there about repairing (and even bending/modifying) the speak n spell... sure you'd need to break out the sauder iron, but I bet one could learn that machine fairly easy. Heck, with Youtube, you can just follow along almost. :P
If I owned one I'd have to crack it open and try to get her talking
again. :P
I have not found much info to solve this problem. It does not help that
I am not overly confident in dealing with circuit diagrams etc. But what
I have found was a badly scanned copy of the circuit for the board but little else. Lots about how to mod the board for circuit bending etc.
but not much about how to solve the problem of no power lighting up the device :(
iFixIt kinda sets one on the right path... :P If your issue is one they cover. But even if not, I've seen tons of repair guides - AND circuit bending walk throughs on Youtube... (circuit bending is when you make
the speak n spell ROCK n ROLL!!!)

For anyone familiar with the Halt and Catch Fire tv series,
this is a worthy inclusion to consider.
I enjoyed Halt and Catch Fire. Mixing of TI & IBM companies along with allFor anyone familiar with the Halt and Catch Fire tv series,

Halt and Catch Fire was pretty good. I think it was very loosely based
on sone true events. But it's worth the watch.
