This looks like a potentially interesting alternative to the Pi for emulation work... If their lead times weren't so long, and there was a little more support I might pull the trigger on it right now. The price certainly is good for what you get.

I really like Pine64 - I own a PineBook Pro and its... ok; pretty great for $199 but a TAD bit too long in the tooth for real work - and I like their SBCs. I like SBC options that have a PCIe slot for connecting actual drives; I don't need MUCH out of a NAS, and have found a few options that are better suited than a Pi for that purpose.

This is a new board? The thing that they always lack, tho, is the support - the software and OSes that the Pi community deliver... which is fine, but for SBCs you REALLY need to bring some fire to compete with Pi - even if you have better suited hardware.

Please post if you do anything with these; I like Pine64... the PinePhone is awesome and they sell a pretty nice, basic, soldering iron.

    Cheers...

I have the pinecil and the pinepower, both of which are excellent products. I can't bring myself to buy the pinephone, although it's interesting. I agree with you on the support front for the SBC; hopefully we see some good stuff developed for it.

BTW, if you're interested in abusing Raspberry Pis as NAS hardware, Jeff Geerling on YouTube has a ton of videos showcasing different configs.

Just pointing out that pine64.org has a good forum community that was helpful to me when learning the PineBook Pro. If I were you, I'd pop on the PinePhone - is it a cell phone replacement in 2021? No. But it is learning and tinkering with software [and possibly hardware.. altho I think its not powerful enough to be an iPhone contender] that will become the Linux cell phone replacement soon[ish]. I literally can't wait until we get things working enough for these devices to be what I carry around daily.

I run a small setup using cheap [and slow] USB HDDs. I run 2 8TB drives on a
Pi 3+ and get 10mb/sec. If I ever get serious I'll throw a Pi 4 on it and hope to get around 100mb/sec. Its no Synology but it gets the job done for my current needs.
