• Tany 1000 HX

I'm tempted to setup my old Tandy 1000HX again. It was my first computer
back around 1988. It still works, though the drives are failing. I should really open it up and make sure the board and components look ok.
I plan on buying a serial wifi modem so I can at least dial up some BBS's.
The no floppy drives issue will need to be solved somehow; maybe I need
to research an SD card solution. It's so awesome to see all these
old computers still being used 30 years later. I'm in heaven.

The new modern computers and the web are so commericalized and full of
bots and spam I just hate it. Retro computing has made computing fun again.

Can't say I'm familiar with the 1000. Bit if you're going to open her up and its already got some "issues" then you're probably going to want to check capacitors...most likely thing to fail over time. Otherwise have at it, and enjoy.

I think thats a great piece of kit for a a computer of that vintage. It will be fun to load up Telix and surf the current day bbSes on such a correct machine.

Wonder if you can find some suitable drives for a fair price just to have the complete system - but agree that an SDcard solution is another great upgrade.

I also had a Tandy... around 1995, tho - I forget the model but do remember it was a 386... I still hate Deskmate with a passion. :P

I'm definately out of my league there, hopefully I can find an easy
solution. A working floppy would be nice for sure, but I ended up tossing
most of my floppies, so the SDCard will probably be the way to go.

I can't wait. Back when I was a kid my parents never let us go online so
it's virgin territory for that old beast.

There's a guy on Tindie.com who makes a bunch of add on cards for the Tandy 1000 line to add more modern functionality. https://www.tindie.com/stores/cyberneticsys/

One of those items is a internal Gotek connector which will easily let you replace that failing floppy drive.

Whoa, I thought I was the only one who bought one of those! That was my only computer before I hit my Amiga phase. :) I thought that the cabinet on the
HX was *so* cute. The first thing I bought was the 640k upgrade and the 1200 baud modem. Then I went to college and *everyone* had much better computers that the Tandy. But the 1000HX had better sound. :)
