    Howdy,

I've just moved Hub 3 to Linux, and changed the software to binkd and hpt. (IE:

Hub 3 is no longer a BBS - I didnt really want to maintain
    a second BBS).

I also moved it so that it gets backed up daily, and will be a server that I wont "play with" as much, so hopefully I wont break it :)
(Although, I'm liking hpt, so expect me to play a little in the short term.)

Hopefully I didnt break anything with this change - please let me know if you see something unusual.

    BINKP is alterant.leenooks.net:24555
    BINKPS is alterant.leenooks.net:24556
    EMSI TELNET is alternat.leenooks.net:60177
    EMSI TCP is alternant.leenooks.net:60179

Hub 3 can also be connected via tor - let me know if you want to play with tor,

and I also have jamNNTPD ready to be used as well.

    BINKPS is alterant.leenooks.net:24556

I just polled and all looks good. No delays. :)

My own binkps port is 24553. I took the BBS machine off the DMZ it had been on previously yesterday and forgot to open port 24553 in my router but it's all fixed up now. :)

Port 24553 is the more or less standard port for binkps. It's good to see it starting to be used more.

I dont think there is a standard, but the common seems to be 24553 for those who enable it for their first instance.

24553 is what we have been using as standard. Digital Man applied to the port authority (whoever that is) to have that port officially assigned but I don't know if that did or will happen.

    IIRC it got rejected.

We have to ask Rob. The ticket only tells us that it was rejected. https://tools.iana.org/public-view/viewticket/1158485

    That would be a catch-22.

There is no official standard at all for binkps, but there seemed to be a consensus for binkps on 24553, if binkp is on 24554.

I just enabled binkps on realitycheckBBS on port 24553.

    works :)

Sounds like we all need to use 24553 and make this a de facto standard.

Sounds like we all need to use 24553 and make this a de facto standard.

But a port number is not enough for a standard (de facto or official). We need a nodelist flag, SRV record, agreement on the TLS versions and how certificates

I think they are probably all valid requirements.

We should just set the standard, since this is a new thing? ie: Lets start with

IBS or SBN flag to indicate BINKPS (I prefer the latter).

Or, we could use binkps by arrangement, the same way we arrange session passwords with mailers we communicate with on a regular basis.

    Baby steps.

For this use case you could use any port number.

The other stuff is much more important, because it has to be supported by the software.

    Baby steps.

The first baby steps are done, I'm getting all my mails over TLS (or Tor).

    What's next? ;)
