• Adding Files to File areas

If I want to add the various files I download from elsewhere to the file
areas on the BBS, is it as simple as moving them to the File Areas?

within the bbs you can use a mass upload option from the sysop menu once you drop them into the dirs on the HDD

There's also a similar tool in MUTIL :)

You can use mutil or a mass upload on the BBS.

You can mass upload files that don't exist in your database if the files are in the directories. If those files have a file_id.diz the descriptions will be imported from them, it's sweet.

If those files don't have a file_id.diz you can import files and descriptions with mutil using Import_FILES.BBS (if you have files.bbs with those files).

After you put them in the appropriate folders you need to log-on to the BBS
and do a sysop upload ("Mass Upload")

You need a menu command like this:

    (F1) Mass Upload

Mystic comes prepackaged with this command but I can't remember the generic hotkey for it - look at your file menu in your menu editor first so you'll
    know what the hotkey is.

Then after you log in as a sysop & execute that command, Mystic will process your upload and/or import file_id.diz (if applicable.)

(Then the file will appear in your file area)

Thanks. I was wondering why I wasn't getting any choices to select using mass upload.

    My workflow if I'm just adding weekly downloads of mine that I want to add;

scp files from my local laptop to the bbs:
    scp ~/Downloads/uploads/* user@bbs.box.com:~/mystic/files/uploads

Then I do a '/U' mass upload in my Uploads file area.

From there I 'V'view and 'M'move them to their correct bases.

If its a bigger job, I use mutil to upload many directories at once... sometimes pulling in 00INDEX files for descriptions. Info on mystic wiki or in mutil.ini... :P

Got it. So moving the zip files into the temp directories I opened them into while I read the docs just made it slightly more difficult for myself.

Do you set those up like automatic events?

Not really, Barmed... but like.. I was installing a bunch of old BBS/Shareware/Etc CD-Roms from back in the day, and a lot of the ZIP files didn't have FILE_ID.DIZ for Mystic to automagically import the descriptions... in that case, a lot of old collections used 00INDEX files or FILES.BBS or... a few other formats; these are text files with a big list of all the files in a directory; and you can setup Mystic's mutil tool to import that file and give all the files you added a description.

There is info about doing so on the Mystic Wiki... its sometimes a b**ch to setup, but the option IS there if you're adding TONS of stuff.

Really, I add files kinda in a way that ISN'T automatic... but feels right to me. I get in the zone and go on robot mode, the keypresses become a routine and... I should probably figure out smarter ways to import stuff. BUT it works for me. :P

I don't anticipate having a lot of files to upload, I just look at automated solutions because I manage to do a LOT of typos. but as I'm only looking at a dozen files, that seems harmless enough.
