Hi all.
I'm pondering purchasing a new microphone for use with video making etc.
Does anyone have a recommendation of make or models I should consider
that they have found good to use?
Best, Paul
I have had a good experience using the Blue Yeti microphone. Not sure
it is the best microphone, but it is good for podcasts, and useful if there is more than one person using the microphone at a time. It's a
good compromise between quality and price.

Blue Yeti is handy in that it is very much plug and play (USB
connection). I've got one and enjoy using it.
The challenge is that it is VERY VERY VERY SENSITIVE. Even at its lowest sensitivity, it will pick up EVERYTHING. If you're in an ultra-quiet environment, then that's fine, but if this isn't the case for you then consider something else.
This also means mounting it on an arm or similar is very important: If it's on your desk, it will pick up your hands moving on the desk and so on.
Generally the recommendation is to have a USB pre-amp and a standard microphone (Where you have more choice...) running into that. More kit
but enhanced quality.
That is a good point. The one I was involved with getting was to set up a organisation for doing podcasts, but you can in the background hear the tr on the street.

This is because the blue yeti is a condenser microphone. If background noise, or even room reverb is a concern, one should look into a dynamic microphone.
Lordy, it's like you and I are twins or something ... OK pick some lotto numbers now - please :)

Have (pardon the pun) heard of this with all of the condenser microphones... perhaps dynamic may be the better way to go..

thank you for the comments and ideas, appreciated. I have looked at both
of these.
In the end I opted for a Shure SM58 which I think will do the trick
nicely :)
Of course, SM58 works for everything ;).
Btw, are there digital Mics with connectors that are more robust than micro-USB (or USB-C)? Or are they just toys that will be replaced by another toy in a couple of years.
There is a combo deal on this focuscamera.com site for a microphone and headphones for $50. The reviews on Youtube seem to be pretty good on the mic. Go to focuscamera.com and search for AT-EDU25.
