I'm a fan of the synth pop bands from that period. Erasure, Ultravox etc.
I saw Erasure Live in 2005 in Anaheim, California and also saw Depeche Mode three times, Anaheim in 2001, Los Angeles in 2013 and 2017.
Just wanted to kick off a thread about favorite 80's bands, artists, songs.

band ever.

Iron Maiden, stuff along those lines along with classic rock. Interestingly enough I like a lot of the pop stuff as well. Duran Duran, Prince, Michael Jackson. Never know what my play list in my car is going to come across.
Frustrates my wife when she's riding in my car. Might hear Rick James (superfreak) and then go into something recent from the Black Keys, then some King Crimson or ELP and then a bit of Black Sabbath.
As a professional radio announcer/dj most of what I played in the 80s was

Cool. Yeah I was more at the pop end but also worked in commercial
radio for a time and that was mostly pop formats so I guess it's to be expected for me.

I really used to love Manowar. First several albums probably all the way to Fighting the World (Hail to England and Sign of the Hammer are probably my favorites. Once they hit the late '90s I kind of drifted away. Musically sti awesome, lyrically not so much (in my opinion and we all know what opinions correspond to.)

Mostly metal. Was a long hair headbanger back in the '80s. Judas Priest, Iro Maiden, stuff along those lines along with classic rock. Interestingly enoug like a lot of the pop stuff as well. Duran Duran, Prince, Michael Jackson. Never know what my play list in my car is going to come across.
A lot of metalheads like classical music too. Specially the melodic, bombastic ones.
Et tu brute? :)
How long have you been doing the radio thing?
I did it from 1979 - 1993, then I migrated over to i.t... but I did some live streaming shows for a while and fed a station in Canada for a while.

There is some good stuff like Riverside (Polish band) or Leprous (Norweigan)
... Everyone is entitled to my opinion!

Yes sir. Were you on New Zealand radio? I'd love to hear an aircheck of you on any commercial radio outside the states.
One station I would have loved to have worked for would have been the old KWST - KWEST 106 around 1983. They had a fantastic line up, excellent production, and played good pop music. I think they gave up to KIIS too soon. Their morning team of London and Engleman were hysterical!
Followed by Bobby Ocean and then Pat Garret. Great daytime line-up.
I don't know how it was where you are, but here like with fashions it
went through cycles from heavily produced/jingles/sound beds/etc to just boring more song<>song seques and cue-card reading with NO ad-libbing! I prefer to ad-lib, crack a one liner here and there... have some
production to my show, keep a tight board.
I suppose if you count the commercial station in Canada that would air
my stream when I went to doing live-show podcasting then I was on until 2009. Now I feel (W) O L D. <G>
I run a LPFM now called Total FM, you can catch it at
totalfm.nz ... mostly 80's and 90s music. I'm just getting
back into doing some announcing inrecent weeks again,
started recording hourly weathers that play TOH too.

How do you source your music material? Are there any
licensing hassles?
WAUW.... great music while i wait for the start of the F1 in BelgianGP. Henk

Yep I worked on stations that were mostly Hot AC and CHR formats.
Got a few offers but turned a few down as they were more sales vs
on-air or (in one case) a station run in a way where it was clear the staff were unhappy with management.
I ended up getting called up by a PD and asked to come to an interview
for a a station shifting from AM to FM and changing format from night
talk to (what was the first of it's kind at the time in NZ) a love song dedications format.
I got the job, moved to a new city and did that shift for around 2
years, then moved to afternoons and did that for another 4 years.

It happened here too, lots of JAM jingles remixed and played in NZ
markets too in the 80s, jingles seemed to slip off the on-air mix from
the mid 2000s but I have noticed some stations are starting to embrace them again.
Yeah the 10 in a row, more music and no talk things dove me nuts too :)
if only for featuring Hail and Kill and Heart of Steel.
