Also, it would be nice to have user selectable subscription defaults for new areas (i.e. users can select whether to set the default for new areas subscribed or unsubscribed). I've been caught out when adding new areas, forgetting to subscribe to them. :)

An interesting idea, one I thought of doing was merging the select area /conference with the subscription, so say enter would select the area, pressing 's' would subscribe to it.
It's probably not ideal at present, as you say you have to change conference for each area, I think the default menu has '}' to change to the next conference bypassing the list.
I will look at this soon, I plan on adding an 'offline mail' menu when
I finish qwk support.
