    Hey

I got talisman to compile and run on Haiku..

Seems to drop the first connection when loaded, but after that both telnet and SSH appear to work.

So now you can run a bbs, or connect to a bbs (with magiterm) on Haiku.

    Yay!

Hmmm - I'll have to say 'Yay!' to that too... Haiku is a fun little beast. I don't know exactly what its use case would be - but now we have another reason to possibly put Haiku in production... w00t w00t.

That's why I installed Talisman on my Amiga 3000 running Linux M68k. Just
for the fun of it and to see if it could be done...

pretty happy, magiterm worked right out of the box, now to see if TitanMail still compiles on Haiku :)

I could connect but I could not login, as I forgot my password

There's a bit of a funny code that comes up first after the 'ansi graphics detected' bit... it shows an 0c then there's a pause then the ansi splash screen comes up with the login box etc.

Thanks! yeah I probably was. Either that or Haiku's TCP/IP is a little flakey.

I don't like to blame other peoples code unless I can pin point the problem, because usually it's my code that's at fault.

I'm having this weird error with Magiterm -> Talisman both on Haiku.

When i enter my password and press enter, magiterm appears to hang.. but talisman is still sending bytes, I can even press keys in magiterm and they register in talisman, but the recv function in magiterm keeps reporting EWOULDBLOCK.

    It's a real mystery.

Anyway, when magiterm stops displaying characters, talisman stays connected and I have to kill it or wait half an hour for it to time out, so I probably killed your session thinking it was mine.

The weird thing is, telnet (the command) works fine, ssh via magiterm works fine, magiterm on another OS works fine i'm stumped.

Is it only using magiterm to connect to the localhost? Like haiku to
    haiku?

If so I ran into an issue with that years and years ago when I was
testing a web server on it. If I connected from another machine on my
lan it was fine, but when I connected to localhost it would crap out
    after a while.

I didn't really test to know why and if I did I don't remember.

i had this idea of setting up ice chat in dosbox but not using the dummy video driver so a dosbox window would pop up, making paging the sysop work. (the sysop chats in the dosbox window) dont know if it would work...

haiku is pretty fun though and i've installed it on my laptop and two desktops (one running bbs and this one) everything just works except bluetooth on my laptop

Is EWOULDBLOCK means that there is nothing in the tcp receive buffer? IE: magiterm is saying there is nothing to fetch, but talisman is sending? Presumably the send buffer would eventually fill up and talisman could no longer send?

Since its localhost (?) I wondering if it is MTU related - which might be easy to identify if you removed all the ANSI and just go brief text - or a problem in the driver that provides the loopback interface?

(The reason MTU comes to mind, because I have a wierd MTU issue with IPv6 and my PPPoE isp link, and lowering my MTU so that ICMP framemented messages are not sent - for some reason the devices on my network are not getting them - and happily waits for the TCP ACK that it never gets as a result.)

No, i have two computers one running magiterm and one running talisman.

Interestingly, i switched the one running magiterm and the one running talisman, and that worked. So might be something weird with that computer.

    Who knows.

Thats really cool - it would be a pretty neat project to run a board on an OS that prolly hadn't had many bbSes on it, ever.

I know that RiscOS, over the pond, had some BBSes built on it - I dug into a couple BBS softwares on the platform... I wonder if Talisman, even if you needed to tweak for a build, is the only bbS software on Haiku.

Good on you - if you point it to the public make sure you let us know and I'll make an account. :P

That could be a few things, but I don't think would be haiku, more likely something network related, it's a long way to a garage in Australia from your place ;P

My wife has been torrenting some things for my father in law to watch while he's in hospital, so could be that, or anything really. Could even be my crappy powerline ethernet connection between the garage and the room with the router.

I've not had it happen on the lan though, so I'm not sure.
