• Talisman BBS v0.4

    From apam@21:1/126 to All on Tue Nov 17 18:57:08 2020
    Talisman BBS v0.4 is out!

    This is mostly bug fixes and little improvements over v0.3

    I just hatched it too!

    It's now available to anyone, though should probably still be considered
    beta, as there are more features to add still.

    Thankyou for the testers who helped with previously released versions.

    If you have any bug reports, please let me know in this area. I have a
    todo list on my website if you want to see what's coming in v0.5 or want
    to make a request (request it here and I'll add it)

    Please see the website https://talismanbbs.com/ for documentation etc.

    Oh, I also have a new email address apam AT talismanbbs.com although I am keeping the old one as well :)

    I'm going to set it up on the 32bit machine today and try to connect
    to a couple echo's. (I will probably just use fastecho or squish to
    toss on that machine as it can run dos stuff)

    On first install (Windows) and first login, arriving at the message menu the user is not linked to an active conference or area. Suggest set a start up default for this. I went to J (select conference) then once done saw I was linked to local / general discussion.

    For message search, add a setting in config to set default search options
    e.g. A for all confs, and S for subject. I also question if you need to split out search across body and subject or just merge those two options into one.

    Poking about now :)

    Done, now upon user creation it will scan for the first conference/area
    the new user has access to and set it (for both message and file areas).

    I'm not sure what you mean by default? do you mean so you can just hit
    enter and it picks a default? Or some kind of per user setting?

    Well I've broken some shit. :) Configured a couple message areas and now get "Can't load config." Here are the two files I changed (msgconf.toml)_
    and created fsxnet.toml.

    [[messageconf]]
    name = "Local"
    config = "mb_local"
    sec_level = 10

    [[messageconf]]
    name = "FSXNet"
    config "fsxnet"
    sec_level = 10
    tagline = "The Sitcom BBS"

    --------------------
    [[messagearea]]
    name = "FSXNet - General Discussion"
    file = "fsx_gen"
    read_sec_level = 10
    write_sec_level = 10
    aka = "21:1/130.22"
    qwk_base_no = 200

    [[messagearea]]
    name = "FSXNet - Test Posts"
    file = "fsx_tst"
    read_sec_level = 10
    write_sec_level = 10
    aka = "21:1/130.22"
    qwk_base_no = 201

    [[messagearea]]
    name = "FSXNet - MagickaBBS / Talisman BBS"
    file = "fsx_mag"
    read_sec_level = 10
    write_sec_level = 10
    aka = "21:1/130.22"
    qwk_base_no = 202

    Thank you. Perhaps even offer an option to set a default conference/area

    For message search, add a setting in config to set default search optio e.g. A for all confs, and S for subject. I also question if you need to split

    I'm not sure what you mean by default? do you mean so you can just hit enter and it picks a default? Or some kind of per user setting?

    I was thinking so you could hit enter without having to state it each time. I thought perhaps a global default setting but you make the case for a per user setting as well.. Not sure the best way forward, was just thinking of ways to streamline the search process so as not to have to enter options in each time if it was avoidable :)

    Understood... I want to have a /APAM directory. Is there any ONE source to grab all your current content? Its ok if not, I can run around grabbing them all. Like you said; much might already be in my file areas.

    Quoting could use some work here lol :)

    Sorry, my stuff is a bit scattered over the place. Some stuff I don't
    even have and log in to agency to download (builds of stuff, i have the source).

    I really should sit down and do fresh builds of everything and put them
    in a central space, it's just finding the time..

    Yeah, I could do that. Just have a default = true option set in the msgconfernce / msg base toml files.

    Yep. Sorry for the messed up quoting..

    I can see how that would be good.
