Has anyone heard the report that California now no longer supports Ham Radio and will remove all of their repeaters etc?
I think there is something drastically wrong with that. I'm not into HAM

No, that's not true, and not going to happen. Amatuer radio spectrum is governed by the FCC and international treaties. Repeaters are owned by clubs and their placement is usually governed by private lease arrangements on towers that also are either owned or leasing space to cellular and other types of services, so those repeaters and digipeaters aren't going anywhere, unless those clubs and operators don't pay their rent :)

While stationed over in South Korea years ago, it was a nice Ham Op
that would allow "MARS" calls for free (this was prior to cell phones).
I have a few radios myself but don't use them often. In my area, I
thought the repeater was paid for by the public - but maybe just the maintenance fees?
Sounds strange, though, as you out it. No government entity owns those repeaters, and CA wants to get rid of them to protect the public from
any "nuisance" and "RF Radiation"? Holding a cell phone to your head
day after day is worse :)
I wonder how many complaints to the FCC get generated?
How much revenue to the FCC is lost for those unwilling to get their license or renew their license because they are "unable" to use those repeaters?
