If you're into board games, I'd like to recommend an amazing one: Escape
the Dark Sector. It's a cooperative game, 1-4 players, where you are in a
dark sci-fi setting trying to survive 4 rounds of brutal combat and decision-making. I played with my family tonight (it was my B-Day gift)
and we made it half-way through Chapter 3. It's an awesome game.

8/10, says it is a good intro game to table tops. I'd like to let the kids experience something like that, although not sure when I can get it here in Malaysia.

Did you also play the first game in the series? Would you recommend that?

Which sort of mechanics is it based on?

Is it an Eurogame? An Ameritrash? SOmething that defies classification...?

I never played the fantasy version (Escape the Dark Castle? I think) but
I heard it's very simimilar, and they evolved/expanded the mechanics for
the sci-fi version. Would love to try it. I watched the "How it's played" episide or whatever on YouTube prior to setup and it really helped.

It's defintely Ameritrash, heavy on thematic elements, a good deal of
chance with dice rolls -- it's essentially a dungeon crawl -- atmosphere, story and art, etc.

Looks great, thanks for the recommendation! A christmas wishlist can
always use more boardgames. I have Legendary Encounters: An Alien Deck
Building Game in my collection and I love it so far. Only since COVID I've gotten into cooperative games, it's been great fun.

I infer from your responses it is a game based on scenarios. You know, games with a fixed plot you need to solve episode by episode.

Do you think each chapter is replayable?

How much game do you think you can squeeze out of the base game, so to speak?

My group is fine with cooperative Ameritrashers with a finite lifetime as long as it is finite but long. I am personally more of an Eurogamer, but you can bet I will be the first dude making gutural sounds while moving aliens on a board.

Board gaming is so addictive. I was inspired after chatting about EDS
today that I dropped into my local game store (Games of Berkeley) and
picked up Marvel Champions (8.2 on BGG currently).

Also picked up some new Citadel miniature paints and brushes -- my
Kickstarter copy of CAR WARS Sixth Edition arrived on Friday. Man oh man
I can't wait to play, but got to get the cars table ready!

    Game on!

So far, we've played a handful of games and haven't seen much repetition
yet, but i do think it's inevitable. There are 40+ encounter cards in
the base game (there are expansions, I think), but because the way the
decks is shuffled, even when we ran into an encounter we'd played before,
there were often a few options we'd try differently.

Well, that reminds me of Arkham Horror 3rd Edition. Each scenary is different, but they put a deck of generic encounters in the mix which is common to all scenaries. By the time you are playing the 4th scenary you have seen most encounters already.

It works in Arkham Horror 3rd because the juice of the game is not encounter cards, but putting off fires waster than the city crumbles to dust. Most encounters are for color only.

I really want to play Arkham Horror. I purchased Marvel Champions
recently, and I didn't realize it's a kind of simplified AH game -- minus
the campaigns (both by Fantasy Flight) -- and I think I might return it to
    get AH!

I am not a super fan of Arkham Horror, but my group likes it and I don t think it is
bad. I just think there are more interesting things out there.

Keep in mind there is a Vim vs Emacs style flame going on between fans of Arkham
Horror 3rd and Arkham Horror 2nd.
