• Ansi drawing tools

I'm thinking about updating my old ansi drawing tool and search for input on what's important and what is missing in current drawing tools.

I'm shooting for a more heavyweight tool than moebuis/pablodraw. I want to have some BBS specific features in it.

What BBS features could be useful for you?I'm not an ansi artist (or something in that direction) and I want to know what potential users want/need for better planing.

    So every input helps:

    + What's your must-have features?
+ What do you miss in current tooling?

Good ole TheDraw in DOSBox meets all my needs.

Ability to load ansis which have been strangely formatted and correctly reformatting them to the standard 80x25 with proper linefeeds.

one thing that would be useful: let's say i pick a point at 35,10. i put in a width, 10. i put in some metadata: a pipe code for a username and a pipe code that justifies it in a 10 character wide box.

the entire time i edit the ansi i'm kept out of that box. and then when i save the ansi, the box is collapsed and in it's place is put the metadata i provided.

this way the onus is on me that my pipe/@/whatever codes are correct for filling that 10 character space (regardless of what weird bbs i use it on), and you don't have to interpret anything with the editor, etc.

if i want to put a code to erase the screen, i pick 1,1, length 0, and the metadata can be the CL pipe code, etc.

i suppose this would require the editor to have it's own one-way save file format (yours->ansi) but it seems like regardless pipe codes will be a pain. avoiding interpreting them at all would be easiest ;)

I think I know what you mean. I hope I've covered that use case.
But you're correct with the own file format. There is unfortunately no way I can use any existing one. But I add meta data to common ANSI basically so not a brand new file format that "makes everything better" will jump out of the box :).

ps. just kidding there will jump something out of the box.

Loading/saving files in Synchronet (Ctrl-A) format would be nice. https://wiki.synchro.net/custom:ctrl-a_codes

y saw you added support for that in syncdraw :).
ty for keeping that code base alive btw. never got much feedback for mysticdraw. That's why the update takes ~20 years - hahaha.

Want to get first version released until the end of the year to make a 20 year update. However I'll rebrand it.

Something that works and feels like TheDraw, and is DOS console based would be nice as well.
