I was wondering this too. I think I tried ftp a while back but I think I had trouble then as well (as opposed to downloading via ftp in the web browser)
I think they might have had some funky detection in there to prevent people using ftp clients and leeching everything.
Seems the site is on auto pilot though, so might just be useless now.

I don't think it's just leach detection (I seem to remember some restrictions on the number of simultaneous downloads in the past). The files seem to just be gone from their FTP site now.

Yeah, sounds like it. I tried to log in via ftp as anonymous and it's very picky about using a REAL email address. What files were you looking for? Maybe they can be found elsewhere?
i just tried, i can download from there just fine. What file do you want?
They had a newer version of The Online Pub (multi-user chat door) than what I'm using.
I've tried to search online for the filename, but Google came back with very few results, including a BBS that apparently is not running now,
and what looks like a file archive in Germany that may only be accepting dialup connections.

3.0 beta 1. But I actually found that archives.thebbs.org still has its files up, just with disabled access to listing the files. I was able to download it from there.
Its not a leech thing Unlimited downloads. I let him know people are having trouble hes in MRC right now. Again lightning fast on my board
if you want it. At the files menu press ! I don't restrict time or downloads
the os2bbs guy was just as bad. protecting from mirroring .. all sorts
of stuff that will be gone eventually because of lame pride.
Earlier, I was trying to download a file from archives.thebbs.org, and while their site is still up, and FTP site is still running, it seems their FTP site is empty. I was able to log into their FTP site (using a FTP program, since web browsers no longer support FTP), and I was able
to log in (using "anonymous" for the username and an email address for
the password), but when I do a ls, no files are listed. It seems their FTP site is empty.
I think you might be confusing http://archives.thebbs.org/ with Anon-Archives. The former I think is hosted by the guy who does Netfoss, the latter Warmfuzzy.
Andrew
You can still download files off the web site if you have an old version of Internet Explorer. I'm using Internet Explorer 11.
I though they were the same thing with just different ways to access it. Sorry just wanted to help if I could.
