Question what networks you running now?
Looking to join some so I'm just checking!
SciNet has some major outages in the last months, so I would consider it more or less dead...
I would like to join RetroNet, but all efforts to apply there weren't successful.

Yup, I'm just waiting for it come come back up one more time so I can remove the areas from Area/Filefix and then I'm dropping it. It's a
shame, it was actually a pretty decent network.

I think I will also remove it sooner or later if it stays dead...

I will be dumping it as well.
It was indeed a decent network, and the owner/ZC just let it fall apart through his own neglect.

If the netizens of the network are unable to connect to each
other without an owner/ZC, they don't deserve better.

The owner/ZC is also the only hub/connection/distribution node.

Hope this helps!

Then create a new one. This is not facebook / whatsapp / twitter. If a
hub goes down, the nodes can create new distribution paths. Of course
if everyone is to lazy to do something about it, the network is dead.
But it's caused by the combined neglect of all members of the network.
If it's not important enough to take action, that's fine. But don't complain about something that was part of the deal from the beginning. It's not the first FTN that stops working, because of a single point of failure and/or the 'owner' lost interest or was unable (for whatever reasons) to continue providing service.

It has sadly disappeared again. :(
I have suggested this before but the network has never stayed up long enough for us to finish the conversation. :(
Thank you, found him :)

Thank you, found him :)Glad I could help some!
Id happily run as a hub for it - and can relinquish that (if required) when Frank returns.
But there wouldnt be much point if it were just you and me :)
I might make an effort to reach out to those on the SciNet nodelist and see if they'd be interested in connecting up to you as well.
I'd direct them to contact you directly if you're ok with that?
It's a long weekend coming up here in Canada, so I probably won't get around to going this until next week anyway.

Awesome, thanks Deon.

Yes, you could. I now even got an email with my RetroNet settings and I'm connected :)

The main hub (77:1/100) appears to be down since July 27, as you have already pointed out. Although a couple of days isn't really that much
time -- maybe we should wait at least a week or two?
Speaking of this, if we do change the mail flow, should we all queue a copy of all our new messages to 77:1/100 as well, so that if/when
Frank's system is up again (and if/when he returns) he will be able to catch up? As messages don't take much space.

Or should we just export everything new to the new hub only, and then see if/when his system comes up again, and if/when we hear from
him, and take it from there (e.g. revert and discuss the future mail flow with him)? Of course, performing "parallel exports" would
result in getting all [others'] new messages back as dupes once the main hub comes up again...
Yeah sure. Folks can get me via netmail, or email deon at leenooks dot net.
What's funny is his backend systems were still compiling new nodelists
and making them available on his website, but they weren't flowing via the ftn.
My plan would be to export messages to both deon & Frank's system. If
No, there wont be any need to do that.
In fact, anything I receive would be queued up for Frank (so you wouldnt need to either) - and Frank can always RESCAN from me when he's back.

I was going to volunteer but it looks like Deon beat me to it. :)
Yeah, that Deon is a good cookie! :)
Until they take a bite and realise this cookies aint that good :)

I just got connected up there as well! :)

Let's see what happens, I might be willing to do that, but I don't want
to "steal" the network from Frank unless he has decided quit.

Lucky you! I've been trying to join RetroNet for months with no luck. Have reached out on FB but he told me he was a bit busy and would get back to it after rebuilding the network...

I don't know if he does it regularly, but I get my RetroNet feed from Castle Roc k BBS... I know he's been busy lately too, but you might send an email to Black Panther of Castle Rock BBS... bbs.castlerockbbs.com:23

I really need to read ahead on messages before I reply... ;)
I can get you set up here, as I'm a hub for RetroNet as well.
Just send me your info, and I'll get you going.
Deon has already setup an alternative hub & a few people have already connected up. Feel free to send him a netmail (21:2/116) if you'd like
to connect up as well.

Seems like you have a new network yourself (Weednet)
I'm glad I joined that one mayself...
Plug, plug, plug
:) I'm the FTN hub, but is's not really "my" network.
Marisa G. founded WeedNet as a QWK network and I'm gating QWK<->FTN.
