• Synchronet Long Filenames...

From Bucko@21:4/131 to All on Fri Jul 20 20:26:45 2018
Hey guys in the process of setting up another BBS.. In Synchronet I am adding in file areas and every program I try to upload that has a long filename doesn't bite. Besides changing all of the file names (Which is something I really don't want to do because the file base will be shared with my Mystic Board) is there anything I can do?

Personally, what I would do, is wait for Digital Man to finish work on the
new file system for Synchronet. I had read, a few days ago, that he has
started implementing the long filenames in Synchronet. I'm not sure what his timeline is though...

    Hope that helps. :)

Most of the files you'll get through the networks will still maintain the 8.3 filenames as well. (unless some of us forget to change them before sending
them out to be hatched... Sorry, Paul)

Currently when a long file name is received with a tic file it is imported and can be viewed and downloaded on the ftp server in synchronet. Listing files on the BBS will show the file as offline.

I either just leave them like that or 8x3 the filename so they can also be viewed and downloaded from the BBS.

Most times that's not a big deal but some filenames are hard to 8x3 so I just leave them like that.. :)

Hmmm I sense a dig there.. I got you though.. The only files I had an issue with were the files I added myself like files I downloaded and added to the Mystic board.. The old CD's I am going to put online all will be fine..
Thanks again.. Just gotta get motivated to enter all of the directories in
    then just import them...

Synchronet doesn't support long filenames in the filebase. This issue is on Digital Man's To Do list, he is working on a completely new filebase for Synchronet. :)

On *nix, Synchronet does not currently support long filenames (however, the Windows version supports LFNs fine). I happen to be working on an implementation of a new filebase as we speak which will support LFNs on all platforms (see my post on Fido/DOVEnet SYNC_SYSOPS).
