• Gopher is still alive

From shinobi@21:1/153 to All on Tue Jun 5 22:25:36 2018
    Hello All,

I just wanted to mention there are gopher proxies growing.

And according to current situation there is FSXNET available to
access through it via HTTP web browser. I was curious whether
I'd find myself on the google and well... I found it.

    By googling: shinobi fsxnet
    I was redirected to:

    https://gopherproxy.meulie.net/vert.synchro.net/1sub%3Afsx_mys

I don't care. Just saying. There were some concerns regarding FsxNET accessibility through the web without access rights.

    Best regards

    Shinobi

Xibalba exports *some* message bases via Gopher -- including fsxNet: gopher://xibalba.l33t.codes:44513

-or- e.g. with floodgap proxy: https://gopher.floodgap.com/gopher/gw?gopher://xibalba.l33t.codes:44513

I have a gopher server running here also. All the BBS file and message areas are available (read only) via gopher.

I don't know if there are any gopher clients available now like there once was. I have an add on for firefox that does gopher.

    Ttyl :-),

Well... when I recompiled the elinks... I included the gopher support. You
can find the WIN32 binaries here:

    https://gitlab.com/the0/elinks/tree/release_0.11.7/bin/win32

However I have some feedback it doesn't do anything. From my experience it sometimes gets stuck. I'd have to explore it more deeply. What I did was
just simply recompiling the last stable release.

So there is at least one textual gopher client out there.

    Best regards

Well... according to Your message I decided to compile the Linux x64 version
of elinks with the gopher support.

    You can download it here:

    https://gitlab.com/the0/elinks/tree/release_0.11.7/bin/lin64

    It's enough just to run:

    ./elinks gopher://vert.synchro.net

At least that worked for me. I have to look to Your gopher page.

    Best regards
