• Network Experiments

From apam@21:1/125 to All on Tue May 22 21:09:23 2018
    Hey

This afternoon / tonight I've been experimenting with creating my own
    message network. (Just for fun).

It's not finished yet, and it's very simple. There is no routing,
probably a ton of things could go wrong, but hey I'm learning still :)

So far I've got scanning and tossing working, just invent a way of
actually transmitting the packets from one system to another.

Need to do more testing, but if you're interested in having a look...
checkout maginet branch from a new clone of Magicka, I wouldn't recommend
using this branch on your main bbs...

Cool... I will try and get my Pi updated to play with this also.

Have fun. Today I am working on the transport method. It consists of a
server that runs at the hub and a polling client that runs at all the
nodes. Using SSL/TLS to encrypt everything.

My brain is already feeling a little cooked and it's only 9am. I sort of
wonder if it would be better to use FTP or something...

LOL it just occured to me I can use binkd in the same way wwivnet uses
    binkd.

Haha, well I will save reinventing this particular wheel for later :) (In
other news I'm understanding wheels a little better ;P )

Pretty stoked actually, as I got messages flowing between 3 systems.

For what it's worth, I've now managed to make my scanner / tosser work
with mystic message bases (or any JAM base I think). It also now runs on Windows as well as Linux.

You have to setup the message base as "Local" in mystic (that's how I
tested it, but might work with other settings).

Well that certainly helps those of us who play in the window world :) Nice
    job.

Is that like an alternative for FTN technology?

    entirely?

    ... 2 + 2 = 5 for extremely large values of 2.

Previously it was an entirely different version, but it's now in 11.

It's still getting a lot of changes, so I wouldn't recommend using it yet
for anything other than messing around with.
