What does everyone think of the Android or the Intel mini boards? I like the idea of having more power and memory then pi. (even though I have two pi) I like the idea of say the Intel board having two to four gigs of ram and running linux on it.
Is there a particular reason you want more power? I mean a BBS shouldn't need too much power, so I guess you want to do something else with it?
it's not really the cpu power, I've been told by Datalus the bbs is fast. It's the RAM I see while working in the Ubuntu desktop or root that one or two more gigs of ram would be helpful. Be it Windows or linux the more ram you throw at it the better.

I have also been somewhat interested in Intel SBCs but, as apam pointed out, they are more expensive (sometimes by > US$100 vs a Pi) and many of them are no longer manufactured/supported.
The Udoo X86 is still being made and sold, but they run about US$149.
Separate desktop operations from the BBS, ditch the GUI and 1G is heaps
of RAM. ;)

Hello again!
When I am up to speed again with linux I must likely will but for now I have to stay with the gui till I relearn the back end...
You can always boot to text mode, and if you need the GUI, type "startx" to load it, then exit the GUI when done. :)

Thanks, laughing just like 94 with DOS let me write that tip down.....
Question for you all.
I guess I could search for a hour but may be able to get a reply here
also and more details.

I've often thought the same thing and have looked at getting an INTEL
NUC but it gets to be way more than I want to spend on a PC. I'm also
in to having as little fan noise and power usage as possible, so those seem prohibative.
