HMB was a 16M size limit for the _entire_ messagebase. When your messagebase has close to 200 echos (plus netmail), and many of those
areas are fairly active, it makes the messagebase very susceptible to being overloaded. Once you break the 16M limit, ugly things happen,
like everything gets scrambled, and weird crossposts happen!

    Hi Vk3jed,

When you say crosspost, what is that?

I'm using qwk packs and offline readers as a bbs user, and I'm seeing errors
on many of the messages in the qwk packs. I'm using multimail 0.52, and terminate 5.0's mail reader. Both systems behave differently.

Multimail shows the message count for an area, but the area index has many messages that have error 0 message for the message line.

In Terminate's (old dos program) the messages from field looks missing and
the messages body runs through the from, and subject. Each message looks to contain several messages.

    Things just looked mangled.

I think vk3jed was speaking of issues that can happen if a hudson message base grows beyond it's limits.

That's an odd one. Both MultiMail and Terminate have nice message readers. Terminate has an excellent point reader built in.

Do you see that with all the QWK packets you download or is that on a particular BBS?

    Ttyl :-),

    Hi Vk3jed,

When you say crosspost, what is that?

With a corrupt HMB, messages would find their way into the wrong area and even get exported to the wrong echos!

Hmm, I don't recognise any of the symptoms you're describing. :( When I had a corrupt messagebase, I could still download messages into Bluewave (that's what I used back then), but they were all in the wrong areas, almost randomaly scattered throughout the messagebase. Only fix was to delete the messagebase and start again. I can't recall if multiple message bodies ended up with the one header or anything weird like that, it was a very long time ago!

Anyway, looks like you have some form of corruption somewhere.

    Definitely something's corrupted!

It could be something to do with the QWK export settings from the hosting BBS. Perhaps a missing CONTROL.DAT or incorrect QWKE setting?

Multimail should support QWKE just fine. Not sure about Terminate. Back when I used Terminate it was just a comm program.

I know the wrong QWK settings on the BBS end cause packets to fail to open in Multimail. Haven't seen that sort of corruption though.

Yeah Multimail opens QWKE fine - I'm doing it now. :)

I'd give anything to have your skill set and move to redoing the old source code to Renegade or Virtual Advance 5.0 source code.

Messages get posted to the wrong area. This happens if the corruption happens between new messages getting posted and them getting scanned for forwarding to other BBSs. Because the headers are all screwed up, they get sent to the wrong echo.

We were talking about the effects of a corrupt Hudson messagebase.
