Everyone,
Please note that this echo is for Zone 1 Sysops only. This should be
treated as "restricted" in your mail-tosser, Areafix and BBS settings.
Please take a quick moment to examine your security settings for this

Only Vince is an invited guest. Other non-zone 1 systems should be immediately disconnected.

Lee Lofoso is Bjorn Felten's strawman that popped up in Fidonet in the early 2000s when Bjorn was banned from the POLITICS echo by its then-moderator, Gary Braswell. Bjorn, along with a few others in Zone

Finding good tech-people for that role is hard. Many productivity was
lost over the years because of the belief for the time that it was good
to elect non-tech people or mail hubs or have a "balance" of Z1/Z2 members, whatever that means.

If you want to have some fun, ask Lee about him not having a node number.
He will do a big dance all around that topic. I'm actually impressed by his dancing skills, he could be a backup dancer for Britney Spears. He doesn't have time, he can't get a mailer working, he's a "probation
Sysop" (yes he actually said that). But somehow can recite every mundane detail of Policy or argue every point like some hotshot attorney. Or, he'll never follow it. (Yet he loves participating)
I've made simple polite offers to him and other trolls over the years
that I would happily nodelist them. Cue to the crickets chirping, every time.
And this is why I didn't push 'too' hard on certain exemptions to the nomination process. I definitely mentioned my concerns to my RC, but I didn't, uhm, 'stand my ground' on the issue.

As you say, we need to have experienced personnel on the FTSC. I'm not sure if inexperienced people should be specifically excluded, though I would be just as concerned if any party showed a bit too much interest in getting 'their' candidate onto the council.

Well...the title of the echo area sort of suggests that this channel would limited to the Z1C and other 'authority figures'.
Thanks for the clarification. To be fair, I would have qualified anyway. I' an AC/DC! (o_-)
I can certainly relate to this story. After I got dumped into the deep end, was pretty quickly discouraged, and even seriously considered resigning my node number, too. But, it isn't fair to single out just two people for an attitude that so very many people share! It appears to be a fairly common theme throughout Fidonet, shitting on the new guy. I don't think it is limited to any particular region or zone.
I've made simple polite offers to him and other trolls over the years that I would happily nodelist them. Cue to the crickets chirping, ever time.
And I *know* I've seen you say exactly that in the past. "Cue the crickets"
Frank seems to pop up for a month every couple years, Then he disappears again. He was around a year ago or so, and I put in an app to join SciNet, must have done it just after he resumed his hiatus.
Back in the early 00's I was part of net 229 because Frank and Robert set i up as "the internet only net" or something like that. Much stomping of fee and gnashing of teeth was done over that. It got really bad when I was elected net 229 NC.
I read some of the FTSC technical documents yesterday. I can certainly understand the requirement for operating your own node. But beggars
can't be choosers, so I asked my guy to vote yes on all three.
The thing about inexperienced people running is "why" they would want to wear the hat of something technical. At the best its to understand
things or help with grammar-checking documents and thats actually fair
and reasonable. At the worst its because they seem to believe that the FTSC conjures up new standards or enforces them. It does neither and
many people don't get this.
At the risk of making a bad comparison... FTSC can be thought of as an IT department. Productive things usually get accomplished when its just the tech-people working in the IT department.
When the department is overruled or interfered by marketing, sales or HR, things tend not to get accomplished.

I suppose that depends on what you're eating. If it's Taco Bell, definitely, you'd be correct. (o_-)
"Uhhhhhhhhhh.... we will...... have to....... reschedule".
The discussion echo is for the Sysops...the publication is "public domain", once it's released. The same is true for the FIDOGazette.
That's not true for the FidoGazette.
The FidoGazette is copyrighted by me with all international rights reserved. The authors of individual articles and columns retain their rights to their material but the idea, concept, and the execution of
the FG remains my property.
The FidoGazette is very much copyrighted material especially with some
of the idiots running around in Fidonet.

My beard is grey, my hair is thin and grey, and I am in my fifth score
of years. But, I still get carded.
A score is 'twenty years', yes? So, being 'in your fifth' means...somewhere between 80 and 100? Just making sure I've got my math right...
I'm not sure it is a state law or what, but around here the alcohol
stores have decided not to leave anything to judgement of the clerks and so the card everyone.

I saw one meme where they replaced the traditional tables and seats
with toilets. :P
Except these new pot shops, oddly enough, which also sell perfectly legal paper products and glassware. They act more like porn stores; anyone under is strictly not allowed entry, let alone purchase. And yet, even they are pretty lax when it's clear you're over that age.

Where I live, its absolutely disgusting how many pot-shops there are.
Its more tacky than porn shops, cheque-cashing joints or weird run-down plazas of weird convenience stores, pawn shops and jewelery nobody buys.
I actually wish pot was illegal again. There was nothing wrong with it "then", now since becoming legal, every shop has employed weird
millenial douchebags attaching any number of elaborate "stories" about
the different blends, strains, etc... and greeting customers with a smiling face? Is this Nordstrom?
I miss the days of Jay. Jay didn't care about names, blends or stories. Jay was always pissed at someone and just wanted his f**king money NOW because he's gotta be somewhere else.
I was very surprised when someone opened up a second pot-shop in Hicktown, Canada. But, everyone wants to make a buck off a new fad. Wasn't that long that there was a vape shop every other block...
I definitely agree here. "The f--- you talkin' to, child? I been smokin' th good stuff longer than you've been *alive*!"
When I imported this echo there was no indication it was sysop only.
Pretty sure all the echos with [ADM] at the start of the long name are sysop only, aren't they?
