• Logon Process for Web UI

From echicken@1:103/705 to GitLab note in main/sbbs on Tue Nov 28 22:53:20 2023
    https://gitlab.synchro.net/main/sbbs/-/issues/88#note_4512

I implemented the AUTO.MSG thing. It was tacky and ugly, so I quickly de-implemented it. 20+ years ago it would have been a cool BBS website feature, but I'm not feeling it tonight.

Displaying message files on the web demands handling @-codes, many of which don't make sense in a web context. There would be a lot of invalid codes and empty/placeholder spots in files that use them. I'm opposed to this kind of web feature on grounds of bad taste and perforce halfassedness of execution.

I don't see that it makes sense to add QWK bulletin files to the web interface. They're QWK bulletin files to be included in QWK packets. A web UI is not a QWK packet or QWK reader. I can't think of where, when, or why we would show them, and can imagine their contents not making sense in context. Request denied.

The logon message in information -> system seems like a DigitalMan thing, so I'll leave this open.

I've crossed out the rest of the stuff in the original post.
