I couldn't figure out how to *just* trigger a diff update if the file is sitting in the /FILES directory. I am sure I tried "recompile" or something, but the .024 number in the config panel stayed the same.
Instead, I deleted the whole entry, and just pointed oxp to the .031 edition. I'm good until this Friday. :/

Errrrm, the same code is used irrespective of architecture.
Finally, finally, finally, I've figured this out .....
Let me know if I must replace the current Z2 DAILY. 038 that I
have inorder for the diffs to work.
If the nodelist you're trying to update is the z1 version, z1 version
diffs must be used. If the nodelist you're trying to update is the z2
version, z2 version diffs must be used.
I don't think THAT is stated so clearly anywhere in fidonet land as you have just done! Thank you.
The nodelist masters should cut'n'paste THAT at the very top of those files!
..or it should be part of the ftsc family of docs,
somewhere -because I could not find this subtlety meantioned anywhere obvious.

No, I was not aware of that. I fetched my main nodelist from my boss
node (Tommi, Zone2) and the diffs automatically arrive from there too.
When this first started, I may have grabbed the list from Z1 Filegate site. Then, I may have grabbed a subsequent nodelist from Terry Roati's system in Zone 3 (but I don't remember).
My .017 copy (in WinPoint) looks like a Z1 version
My .024 copy looks like a Z1 version.
My .031 copy is a Z1 version.
My .038 copy is a Z2 version, but it says..

In the past, I thought there was only one "full" global nodelist. Now there is a version for each zone. I am not sure if that is an
improvement. When did the zone-specific versions start?

would anyone want to use diffs on a daily nodelist?

Yes, the ZC of each zone creates a nodelist for their zone.
The only difference is that each zone lists their zone first making nodelist lookups faster.
That's not an issue today.. but it was at one time.. :)
There is in fact one "global" official NodeList that includes all Zones and it hatches out early on each Friday morning. There is, at least in Zone 1 a "daily" list called Z1Daily; the same may be true in Zone 2; but the actual working NodeList is the one that shows up on Friday.
I am unaware of anyone publishing a separate exclusive Zone 2 list...

Each zone creates there own version of the nodelist.
If someone was using a zone 2 nodelist, then a zone 2 nodediff is
required to update it.
The same goes for the other zones.

Just heard back from the hosting provider for my server. They had some scumbag doing a DDS on the network.
Things have now settled down, so perhaps try again.
That leaves me wondering why both August and I are having problems
when we try it with OpenXP ??
Additionally, does anyone know if z4 create their own version of the world

I don't think they do. I grabbed a nodelist from a BBS in Z4 and found it was a Z1 nodelist. I did find an up date ZONE4.Z38 so they are current but no Z4 nodelist that I could find.

And, I assume you are running the windows version of OXP?
I don't have a NODEDIFZ or NODELISZ created at all.

I *do* have a lowercase "/nodelist" directory, but I had created that myself.
Could it be that the program expects to operate in C: drive? My OXP is configured in my H: partition.

I was getting settled to hook up with the fnews_publish echo that only contained the newsletter separated into separate messages for each
page of the edition. Sometimes I am just interested to go directly to

But since the "09 Mar 2020: edition, the auto-posts stopped. :(
