In German schools kids are taught about that time. Japan? Its skimmed over.
And the emperor never admitted Japan had lost, but merely "the war didn't go as we planned", or words to that effect.
Yep.
There were revisionist "academics" a few years ago who said WWII was all America's fault, that we imposed sanction of scrap iron, oil, etc on Japan and "forced" them into the war.
Apparently they neglected to learn about Japan's invasion of China
(1931), Manchuria (1937), SE Asia, etc which we were trying to contain while remaining neutral.
If Japan hadn't attacked Pearl Harbour it might of been another year or two before we finally did enter the war, on England's side, if it hadn't
been conquered by the Axis first.

remaining neutral.
It is a shame that people do not learn much about history any more...
Agreed. From everything I have learned about it, Japan did not think
they could win a war with the US. They hoped that, by hitting Pearl Harbour fast and hard, they could convince us to stay out of it. Boy
did they mess up.

When I was very young I remember someone saying that before Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Japan has asked that other Nations send Metal to them, and the United States had people save their Tin Cans to help the people of Japan.
And that Those Tin Cans were used by Japan to make Bombs
Then, they wanted an apology from the US for dropping the atomic bombs
on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The late George H.W. Bush said "they aren't getting an apology from this President". I believe he served in World War
II, as did my late father.

George H.W. Bush was the last American President to have served,
period, and he did indeed serve in WWII. If memory serves, his WWII
story is pretty interesting.
added "with his relationship with Monica Lewinsky, he blew it". <BG>
