We had home movies (my father brought a camera and projector in 1947. I still have the Revere projector somewhere. The camera disappeared years
ago.
At the time, around 1951-53, the station was only on the air a few hours
a day. And those were a morning local news shows (pre-Today), and a
afternoon cooking/homemakers show, etc. There was no real network programming till
the afternoon. At least around
There were only a few hundred sets in town at the time and we were the largest city in the state, 100k+ in the metro area.
There may have been some soaps on but my mother listened to those on the radio.
After the morning news program, about a half hour or so, the tv sat
unused till the afternoon shows started. The cooking/homemakers show was the number one afternoon show.
By the time I was maybe four I learned that everything on tv wasn't real
and happening at that moment somewhere in town.

Ok.. Pre-age 4 might be reasonable to think stuff is "live" on

in the sink and my head would hit the faucet. I also remember
crawling into dresser drawers and enjoying the ability to
"fit" in some of the small ones. There are also some photos
and films of me when I was clearly pre-school age and I
remember my parents pointing the cameras for those.

I have some vague pre age four memories. One being in the car with my father (whom I adored), backing out the drive way, onto the street, and driving off. No idea where we were going or why. Just that snippet.
We had a large black housekeeper who had a bandana around her head. I recall walking into the kitchen with her washing dishes, looking out the window and singing gospel songs. She was always so happy.
Another housekeeper after the one above, Sarah. I used to con her
into taking a walk with my pulling a little red wagon I had. After some distance I would be "tired" and she had her pull me home, up a hill,
while I rode in the wagon. :)

I have one pretty vivud memory from age 3 or 4. We lived in a little
farmhouse in southeast Kansas. It was my birthday, and my mom was making a chocolate cake. She left the kitchen for a few minutes, and I climbed up
onto the counter and started eatting the batter in the mixing bowl, while watching one of my mother's uncles walking around the yard out the window.

I may be slow at times, but not that slow. :)

No doubt. I recall brothers and sisters doing the same sort of thing as well. The odd part of this, though, is that even though I've always had this
memory, when I bring it up, my mother doesn't seem to have it as well.

Memories affect people in different ways. Something maybe important and remembered by one, and will be ho-hum to another and forgotten.
Ask four people who are part of a collective memory (a natural disaster,
some event or other all were part of) one could get four different detail memories. The main event might be the same, but how it was perceived by
others may vary.
Like people who witness the same accident may recall different details.
