    Moving to MEMORIES...

We've never had one in my town, but they do still advertise on TV so I am guessing they are still in business.

Clarksville Indiana had a Denny's for a long time but it closed this year.

There used to be one near Suburban Hospital that I frequented when I had friends that worked there. I have not been by there in years so I don't
know if it is still there or not.

I haven't been on Breckenridge Lane in that area for a long time.

Another subject: Across the Ohio River from Shawnee Park , the Gallagher Station Power Plant will be dismantled. My home is near it.
When they Imploded the Boiler Room Saturday Oct. 18 it shook my house.

I haven't been on Breckenridge Lane in that area for a long time.

The Denny's is/was on the street that connects Breckenridge with Browns
Lane... Dupont, I think. I used to have family that lived off Breckenridge just south of there, but they moved so I also have not been down that way
    in a long time.

Used to frequent the Village 8 Theatre down in that area, too, but I have
not been there since before I moved from Louisville (1997) and I think
Village 8 may be gone now.

I was shocked to learn several years ago that the Showcase Cinemas on
    Bardstown were long gone.

Another subject: Across the Ohio River from Shawnee Park , the Gallagher Station Power Plant will be dismantled. My home is near it.
When they Imploded the Boiler Room Saturday Oct. 18 it shook my house.

Wow!! I had forgot there was a power plant over on that side of the river in that area. With all of the plants along the Ohio that are being dismantled,
I wonder where the power will come from to replace what they were producing?

There's one in Jackson, TN. When we used to go watch some friends play softball that's where we would go eat (right across the Interstate from
the field complex). Always had about a dozen people - good times!

This reply may be a little date, but do you know we had Denny's in Australia as well? At least, I know they existed in Melbourne, Victoria. There was one up the road from where I used to live. It closed sometime in either the late 80s or very early 90s. I don't recall too much about it, as I was little at the time, and only remember going the once, but it wasn't too successful in Australia.

Back in the early 2Ks, when I was attending local sci-fi cons, a bunch of us would get together every couple weeks at a Denny's and just hang out, pig out and usually end up closing the place. During the Summer, after closing, we'd often hang out in the parking lot just chatting it up. There was usually about a dozen of us, sometimes more. Like Bryan Adams said, those were the best times of my life.

Dennys was an all you could eat place? That I don't remember. We also had Sizzler, which was awesome and lasted a while longer, but it too is gone. Australians have gone towards favouring more pretentious food, so these value for money restaurants are slowly dissapearing.

Did Denny's have a reputation for being a bit lowerclass, or having clientele that were trouble?

That would depend on what part of town it was in. When I was younger (1970/80s) I would have said "no" without thinking about it. When I
got older, I learned that some of them did have bars in the back where people could hang out and drink. Also, because they often stayed open late, they might attract a rougher crowd latter at night, i.e. people who'd been partying elsewhere and were now hungry.

I'd forgotten about the bar - when you ordered an alcoholic drink at the
table, they'd come back from a dark bar to bring it to you. Spent many a weekend post-party debriefing and late night college study session at
Denny's, but never went to the bar.

When I was in college we'd get $1.99 grand slam breakfasts and spent
hours there doing homework. As long as the tables weren't needed, we
were polite and tipped well, the coffee kept coming.

As we said, "you never go to Denny's, you end up there."

The rougher the part of town, and whether or not that location had
their own bar, might influence that location's reputation.

Depends on where it's located. The one I frequented was fine, IMO. I liked the food and the service was good. I've also seen the opposite effect at another Denny's, so like any business, it varies.

I do remember an episode of The Simpsons where Ned Flanders says, in regards to bad language, "I expect that kind of language at Denny's, but not here!". I've looked up why that reference would have been put it (after all, they wouldn't have put in that joke if it didn't make sense to others) and found there were some racial discrimination lawsuits in the 90s. I do remember something else being said, ages ago about Denny's, but I was little at the time, and the only thing I remember was there was some "issue".

In retrospect, looking at it now that I'm older, it seems to be a nothingburger.

Yeah, I remember Ned saying that. :D At the time, I assumed it was
in reference to the crowd that Denny's draws when they are open later
    in the evening.

I can remember times when I was in college where the only two places
where the dining rooms were still open real late were Denny's and White Castle. The folks you'd run into that late were quite a bit
"different" than the daytime "family" crowds. IIRC, there may have

I suspect that you are correct.

Yes, I remember an "all-nighter" with a friend in the city. We would up at McDonalds in the morning, and we were sitting there eating our breakfast, guessing whether the patron was "Saturday night" or "Sunday morning". Those that looked hung over, wasted, obviously remnents of Saturday night. The older lady with a McMuffin, probably Sunday morning. Somehow breakfast had been plastered all over the glass windows facing the city street.

No, Denny's is something like a family restaurant. Prices are not all that high but not low either.

There are Denny's restaurants that are open 24 hours have had a bad reputation, not because of the food/service but because of the clientele that would hang out after hours.

Our Denny's never had that issue although it has not been 24 hours since the pandemic.
