Or, in the mountain of food, there is a tiny hole in the center of it, showing the bottom of the dish...and the cat complains you're starving
it to death.
They would waddle away from their bowls then come to where I eating and
beg for what I had. I'd give them a taste and get a look as if to say "How JM>dare you eat something I don't like?" and walk away. :)
So, obviously, with cats testing the new and improved tasting stuff, one
has to be more subtle, and if they go back and gobble it up, then it passes.... but if they totally ignore it, then it would fail... :)

the icebox, and pulls out a steak. <G>

I have read many times that pet food is made to sound good to the
owners. "Oh, it has a mix of this and that. Fido/Fluffy would like
that" when Fido/Fluffy could probably care less.
Animals, like humans, do prefer some foods over others though.
It just takes a while sometimes to figure out if they like this over
that.
It took me a while to figure what my girls would/would not eat.
We don't actually get all that much commercial pet food... The cats get
dry kibble (some variety of Dad's, either Special or Gourmet), with
plenty of fresh water... both available all the time
And then we share nibbles or smears of things we might be eating that arefine for them and that they are interested in
One just offers, and pays attention to what gets accepted... ;)
usually puts it into the cat's fur, to be licked out... calls it "fur candy"... If it's liked, the cat comes back for more.... if not, it
gets cleaned out of the fur and the cat stalks off... <G>

Went through a lot of other brands (they were given away) before I
found one they liked.

horseradish of all things!
I would make a roast with the meat covered in four ounces on each
side. Whenever I had that she would beg until she got a piece then
lick the horseradish off and beg for more.
One time I gave a pinch of it I scraped off my part and she
gobbled that up.
Never saw a cat like horseradish before.
Blanche, my large black and white (picture Sylvester) would run
away from it. :)
Molly also loved baked ham. As it was cooking she would sit in
front of the oven door sniffing the air and start begging.
If sliced or whatever, (either packed or deli sliced) she could care
less about it.
