...No one has a sense of humor anymore.
It's like my brother...he turned 59 today, but after he
snubbed me a couple of weeks ago (and chewed me out) over the
birthday card I gave him, I didn't even bother.
"Every booty wanted you to have a happy birthday -- bun
appetit!!". He growled "that was uncalled for!!". I wanted to
tell him to "Get A Life!!".
Did he ever have a sense of humour?
Did he ever have a sense of humour?
He probably does, but I don't think he appreciates "pun
humor" as I do. Yet, he hates Christmas now, because
except for the Walgreeens stores, and the Chinese
restaurants, everything else was closed that day. He
prefers to go out to eat, drink beer, and converse with
his friends...and hates being home alone. He has no
hobbies at all, and he hates computers.
On the other hand, between the BBS, ham radio, and square
dance related stuff (website and publications), I have
more than enough to keep me busy at the computer at home
alone..
Besides, frequent naps prevent old age...especially if
taken while driving. <G>
Is he older than you? Too bad about in him not having other
interests other than shopping and eating out. But perhaps with
"converse with his friends" he sounds like a conversationalist
and perhaps likes intellectual stimulation. I was going to
suggest that maybe he could find that in a good message board in
times when he is "stuck at home". But, since computers are out,
the typing to replace actual conversing probably wouldn't work
very well.
My mom wouldn't warm up to using a computer at first. Being an accountant/bookkeeper, she did however appreciate the benefits of organized data that a good computer program could produce. She
also loved to write letters, so an intro to WordPerfect turned
out to be perfect. She liked the instant ability to look up past
letters and organize them.
Then, to improve her mouse-motor skills, I found a few games she
really liked. She typically enjoyed playing the real Scrabble, a
CDROM filled with a variety of word games worked well. Then the introduction to InterBBS Scrabble turned out to be a lot of fun
for her too.
Does your brother play chess with his intellectual friends? Maybe
an intro to computer chess could work.
Yes.. you are one busy body.
It's funny and concerning that these people are actually allowed
to drive on the roads.
If ever you get the chance, try to take a look at this tv series:
"Canada's Worst Driver"

There are several car crash sites on You Tube, using dash cams and security cameras.
The good news is that I needed that laugh!! The bad news is that I just peed myself
He's 21 months younger than me. I saw him yesterday, and
the waittress showed a video they did for him on his
birthday. They had a mini basketball goal on his head, and
folks were trying to make the baskets. The fun was over,
when one guy did a "slam dunk", and the balls went
everywhere. He said he got hit by so many of the ping pong
balls, it was pathetic.

I use the BBS games to keep my mind sharp. The late Nancy
Backus, who passed away recently, could clean your clock
in Scrabble. Sysop Sean Dennis dedicated the Scrabble game
on his BBS to her memory. Unfortunately, I've only had
time to logon to do QWK Mail, with no time or energy to
play the games.

My favourite is https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCE6_fESnh9IOJDT7NzTfK7Q/videos with a
guy named Ivan. His voice over comments are hilarious. Joe

Cars crashing would upset me a bit. I'll pass.
Once years ago I was at lunch with a friend who tipped his glass of
iced tea too soon and spilled some on himself and said "Oh, I just teed
my pants".

They aren't gory.
They are for the most part fender benders and others were everyone survives. Mostly drivers doing stupid things.
I wouldn't care to watch gory ones with bloodied bodies laying all
over the road, etc.
No gore. The nice thing is that you can see the lead up to
the accident and it helps you recognize when someone's about
to do something stupid - and avoid getting caught up in
someone else's stupid decision.
The best car crash videos are VERY educational.
Did your brother appear to have a good time despite being made
fun of?

Was/is Sean's version interBBS capable? The one we played
delivered packets that you then "load" into your local game. When
done, you send off the updated packets that have your play.
Later, we discovered a live version of the game where you can
play with other people at any time of day.

Part of the Driving courses that were offered at my highschool
were crash scenes - only after the fact - and some with pictures
of dead or mamed victims.
