We have a battery shop here in Hamilton (called Acme
battery) that carries all shapes & sizes of batteries.
We have 4 or 5 UPSs for various things here at home.
When I see ACME, all I can think of is Wyle E. Coyte.
When a battery decides to bite the bullet, we bring it to
Acme Battery who recycles the old one for us and sells us
a replacement for about ~$30.
That's a pretty good arrangement. I have had to resort to 3rd
party batteries for a couple of my Thinkpad laptops and they
are just not as good with running time as were the OEM.
May be worth seeing if you have a battery shop in your
neck of the woods.
Nope. I'm too rural and too far away from the hustle and
bustle of places like you describe.
This the APC UPS that I mentioned earlier:

I am sure the number of minutes drops significantly when it
actually needs to operate.
