He basically was trained for his "Momma" or "Dad" to be out there
with him (he prefers exploring without a leash)...but when he's done,
he just stands there, waiting for his "Momma" or "Dad" to let him in; thinking they're still outside...but sometimes, they've had to go back
into the apartment, before "he's done".
They and I are puzzled on how to solve this problem. Is there anything that can be done on this??
Nah, they've already decided when this one crosses the rainbow bridge, they're not getting another one. Both have numerous health issues (like me), and it's just too difficult to start with a fresh dog...especially
a dachshund...as they are more stubborn than humans are.

Sure. Get another dog. ;)
When I was a kid growing up, the lady across the street was a Dachshund breeder. She would keep the best of them to Show, and then sell the others. Anyways, that meant there were always a pile of Daschund
puppies to play with, so it was a blast to go to her place. When I got
a little older she would pay me to walk her dogs to give them exercise.
That was fun too, those long-dogs like to go off on their own.
This couple I know have a spoiled dachshund, and when he hears my voice
on the phone, he starts barking...as if to demand to know WHY I'm not
over there!! <G>
I've heard they also can get back problems? Because of their length or something?
