    Hopefully therapy will help, tho it may hurt more initially.

    I've had good results with is particulat physical therapy group before
    so I'm hopeful.

    That's encouraging. I've done a lot of PT thru the Army but my knee and
    finger were done thru a group associated with the orthopedic doctors I
    see. It was a big help with the knee as I had some back to back
    appointments and one, after seeing the doctor, he canceled the therapy
    session for the day. At the time they were in the same building; now
    they're close, but 2 different buildings.


    Steve is on one blood thinner so was actually surprised last week when
    he cut himself that the bleeding stopped fairly quickly. He did apply pressure right away and after we got it rinsed off, put more pressure
    on with the bandaging. Don't know, because I didn't go into the ER treatment room, how much blood was on the bandaging when they cut it
    off but it hadn't fully soaked thru. He'll have a nice little reminder scar on his arm.

    I've done that before and thankfully everything has just been small scratches. The big issue is I'm actually on one blood thinner and an anti-coagulant which can cause bad problems.

    Those can really cause problems--do you have some sort of Medic Alert
    type tag to let first responders know if you're unable to speak for
    yourself? We've talked about getting one for Steve (I've been with Medic
    Alert for 20+ years) but haven't--yet.

    That would freak me out, seeing a needle come at my eyes. I was
    semi RH> sedated for the cataract surgeries so wasn't aware of the
    needle coming RH> at me.

    You don't actually see the needle coming. It's injected below your
    sight line.

    OK, that's a relief.

    I needed them in the kitchen because the distance correction lenses
    from the cataract surgery were just enough to put things about 18"
    to RH> 2' away fuzzy enough that I needed to sharpen them up. That was
    the RH> distance between my eyes and cutting something on the counter;
    I wanted RH> to make sure the knife was headed in the right spot, not a
    finger.

    Same with me. With my 1.25 power readers, everything farther away is lightly blurry but when anything gets within two feet or closer,
    that's when I can't focus well and the readers help a lot.

    I just cut up some chicken to use tomorrow, first time with new glasses
    and no problems.


    No fun--have you looked into learning Braille?

    It wouldn't help. My diabetic neuropathy is bad enough to where I couldn't distinguish the Braille properly.

    No fun. Among other things that did my older brother in besides RH>
    uncontrolled diabetes was a C.Diff infection. I don't remember if he
    had the transplant or not but have read about them.

    It's something I am working on (the gut issues). Another thing is dentures so I don't swallow food whole like I do now. Today, I was
    able to get to the denture place I want to use and it's $2000 for a
    full set of upper and lower dentures out the door. So the first week
    of January, I'm going to my credit union with my parents to see about gettring a
    loan with them co-signing (they offered to help). I haven't had a
    full mouth of teeth for 35 years now. I know I'll need to relearn how
    to eat properly. I'm excited about this.

    Sounds good; start with soft things and relearn how to chew. Work your
    way up to that big steak but enjoy baked potatoes on your way. (G)

    Could you improvise a shoe and have somebody take you? I know
    standing RH> for long times can be hard; I have a tall stool in the
    kitchen that I RH> use if needed. Just semi standing against it is a
    lot easier than when RH> I have to be on my feet for long stretches of
    time. I also do a lot of RH> prep work thruout the day, sitting down
    for some of it.

    I'm still able to wear my current shoes even though they are
    ill-fitting because I cannot walk properly without the special calf
    brace on my
    right shoe. It helps stabilize my foot and allows me to balance
    properly. I do have a pair of house shoes that allow me to walk
    without the brace but I usually walk less than 50 feet at a time. I
    do use a
    cane to help balance me when I walk.

    I've used a cane at various times, not right now but it's there if I
    need it. It was handy a few times when flying--gate agents saw it and
    put me in priority boarding.

    We each have our preferences. (G)

    My preference does come at a cost: stairs. I'd need to add grab bars
    to make it up the two stairs as they're a little steep for me.

    Now with the 16' Scamp, I'd most likely leave the rear dinette in the "full bed" position as the layout I want has a small full-time
    dinette.

    We only have one dinette; it does convert to a bed, as does the sofa but
    we also have a queen bed in the rear. Dinette is in the kitchen area,
    adds a bit more work surface.


    It's not like I haven't planned everything out or anything like
    that...

    Our older daughter has a Bosch, stainless steel and quieter'n a
    whisper. Her family room is right off an open kitchen and you can't
    even hear the dishwasher--oly way you know it is running is to see a
    spot of light on the floor in front of it.

    The good thing about this portable dishwasher I want is my dad can
    make a butcher block for me and put that on the dishwasher for me. A little more usable space.

    Always a help. I have a couple of wooden boards (one that I got from my grandmother's estate in 1974) and an assortment of plastic ones. I
    prefer the latter for meats as I can put them in the dishwasher & know
    they're clean and sanitised. I keep a couple of boards just for meat.

    Looks good but I'd add maybe half a teaspoon or so of peppermint
    extract or sprinkle crushed peppermint candies (candy canes?) on
    top of RH> it.

    I'd put the peppermint extract in. Can't chew candy canes right now.

    Crush them for sprinkles.

    Side note: I love cashews. I haven't been able to eat them in years.
    I am looking forward to the day when I can have a handful again...and

    They're my favorite too.

    Some woods are natural bacterriacides. But I always wipe my wooden boards
    down with white vinegar or hydrogen pewroxide after a good hot mwater
    rinse. I've got some plastic boards - but they're just so tacky and have
    \a cheezy feel to them. I much prefer the maple boards I use.

    Title: Cutting Board Salsa
    Categories: Salsa, Chilies, Vegetables, Herbs
    Yield: 2 Cups

    21 lg Cloves garlic
    2 Jalapeno or serrano chilies
    1/2 c Chopped fresh parsley;
    - packed lightly
    3 tb Chopped fresh mint
    1 lb Garden fresh tomatoes
    1/4 ts Salt; to taste
    Juice of one lemon

    You will need a large cutting board.

    On a large cutting board, chop the garlic and then the
    chilies. Add the parsely and mint and continue to chop.
    Slice and then chop the tomatoes, adding them to the
    pile of other ingredients.

    Mix as you chop by turning the salsa with the flat of
    your knife or cleaver.

    Mix in the salt. When all the ingredients are well-
    chopped, put the salsa into a small attractive bowl and
    blend in the lemon juice. The salsa will be quite runny,
    ideal for being sopped up with flatbreads.

    Yield: approximately 2 cups

    NOTES : Our household name for this fresh Kurdish sauce
    is "cutting board salsa" because all the ingredients can
    be conveniently chopped together into one large pile on
    a cutting board.

    Chopping the ingredients together is an excellent way to
    blend and to distribute the different tastes and flavors.
    Serve as a dipping sauce for bread or a side with grilled
    kebabs.

    The quantity of chilies used in the recipe produces a
    salsa that is somewhat hot when eaten all by itself -
    adjust according to your own taste.

    I got mine at the Italian store we go to in Rochester and a restaurant
    supply place near Honolulu, both good quality and have lasted for years.
    Used one the other day to cut up the chicken for the Moroccan chicken I
    made last night and popped it right into the dishwasher for a hot and
    soapy clean up, now ready to use again.
