I'm sorry it has taken me a few days to reply... We bought
a new pup yesterday and she is just so wonderful :) She is
82 pounds, a central asian shepherd mix (and German
Sheperd). We had to travel about an hour to get her, but
she is just so worth it. I called her a "pup" but she is
about 4 years old... no papers, but when our vet sees her,
I'm sure he'll be able to tell us if that is accurate :)

Is she a rescue or from a breeder? Our first dog was from the local dog
pound. We did love her, but she did have some bad features. I've often described her as being half terrior, half Australian sheep dog and half wolverine!

Our second dog came from a breeder for shelties, about an hour away.
Our dog was only months old and "would soon be too large to show", but
ability to show was not on our radar. He was a black and white sheltie,
and quite gentle. The breeder had another pup (from the same litter?)
who was a merle and very skittish. She asked us to spend a little time
with the merle to help that dog get more used to people. We were 100%
    pleased with our Webster Thordike.

    Title: Samosa Turnovers
    Categories: Tested, Appetizer, Leftovers
    Yield: 5 Turnovers

    MMMMM---------------------------CRUST--------------------------------
    1 1/2 c All purpose flour
    1/2 c COLD Crisco (1 Tb Butter)
    8 tb Water

    MMMMM--------------------------FILLING-------------------------------
    1 md Leftover baked potato
1/8 c Frozen peas, room temp
1 tb Diced onion (maybe more)
    2 ds Salt
    1 ts Curry powder
    1/2 tb Tandori masala powder

    MMMMM--------------------------EGG WASH-------------------------------
    1 ea Egg yolk
    1 tb Water

Crust: Make pastry crust ahead of time and refrigerate.

I used 2 Tb butter and then filled the measuring cup up the rest of
    the way with Crisco.

Roll out on pastry board - roll thin. Used large dumpling press to
cut five circles from the dough. Had to reform dough along the way.

Place dough circles on dumpling press, place 1/4 cup filling on the
lower half of press. Spread a small amount of water around the rim
of the dough, fold press together and press dough firmly in place.
Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Continue with remaining dough
    circles.

    FILLING:

Remove skin from baked potato, dice potato into small pieces. Combine
with peas and finely diced onions. Mix together with spices.
    (experiment with spice mixture)

Place 1/4 cup of filling into each turnover made - (See above).

Brush already formed turnovers with egg yolk mixture right before
    baking.

Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for about 20 minutes or until crust
is light brown. (originally used 400 temp - took over 35 min to brown)

Remove to rack and let cool a bit before eating.

    Tested 11/2/07 Will make again.

    MMMMM

    Hi Dale,

82 pounds, a central asian shepherd mix (and German

    oops 84 lbs... :)

Cassie was found wandering around in Texas, and sent to a Rescue in Texas. It is a good thing this breed is very friendly and affectionate - and smart - given her very large size! She is huge <vbg>

pound. We did love her, but she did have some bad features. I've often described her as being half terrior, half Australian sheep dog and half wolverine!

She sounds like she was a great dog.

Our second dog came from a breeder for shelties, about an hour away.
Our dog was only months old and "would soon be too large to show", but ability to show was not on our radar.

We did have a number of pure breds over the years, a german shepherd, our three Black Labrador Retrievers (Priscilla and Midnight from one litter in KY, then Toby after Midnight was hit by a car when we were living in KY :( ). Then we purchased Sophie and Indy from our local shelter - those two mutts were incredibly neat mutts.... real 'mutts' too... :) I also never had the desire to show any of our purebreds... Just not an activity I would enjoy, I think.

He was a black and white sheltie,
and quite gentle. The breeder had another pup (from the same litter?)
who was a merle and very skittish. She asked us to spend a little time
with the merle to help that dog get more used to people. We were 100% pleased with our Webster Thordike.

That is how we feel about Cassie... 100% pleased :) Our first shepherd was a great protective and friendly dog...

    ===============
    Joe's Port Wine Zabablione

    6 egg yolks
    4 tablespoons sugar
3/4 cup marsala or port wine

Beat egg yolks in the top of a double-boiler. Gradually add the sugar, beating until the eggs are a light lemon color and thoroughly blended with the sugar. Add the wine and beat thoroughly again. Heat water to boiling in the bottom of the double boiler. Place the top of the double boiler in place, and reduce the heat to low. Beating constantly, cook the mixture for 5 minutes, or until it begins to thicken. Do not allow the Zabiglione to boil. Remove from heat immediately and pour into sherbert glasses or parfait glasses. Sprinkle the custard with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.

    Take care,
    Janis

A difference of two pounds out of more than 80, not much. By this date

Sometimes she was -- but when the wolverine came to the front, she could
be very territorial. She would put a fresh meaty bone on our daughter's
bed and then guard it with enough vigor that Cathy was afraid to go to
    bed.

If she was in a rescue center in Texas how did you pick her up?

Maybe :) Though our vet may be able to nail it down to a more accurate age. He'll also be able to tell us if she's at her "adult" size, I would think. We have an app't to see him today at 2:15pm :)

She sounds like she was a great dog.

    I wouldn't blame her I think :)

If she was in a rescue center in Texas how did you pick her up?

We paid a $450.00 adoption fee for her, which covered spay/neuter, vaccinations, HW testing, chipping, health certificate and all the transport fees to get her from Texas to Horseheads, NY where we picked her up. A bit of
$$, but given the cost of a shepherd we felt it was worth it. And her personality is just so incredible, we are all thrilled with her. She met two of my grandsons yesterday. The first thing she did block the door demanding pets and kisses (which the two boys were very happy to give her :) )
