I know we usually stick to national/international politics, but where do we all fit in when it comes to workplace politics?

On my previous job, I worked with a team of butt kissers in the security department. We had butt-kisers like me, sergeants, commanders, and a chief. Except I wasn't actually a butt-kiser; I was simply a guy who got hired,
who was expected to kiss butt, but I never puckered-up.

Making a long story short, my lack of butt-kissery didn't get me far. I was never high ranking, commended, or appreciated for anything more than showing up, despite some of my heroic deeds as a butt kiss in a suit.

Should I have been more 'butt-kissin' with my superiors? No. They can kiss mine instead.

Why do people go that route? Why do people kiss butt on the job? Or at least, why do people kiss but on low wage jobs? Workplace politics are disgusting. All honest employees deserve equal respect. I even saw a dude give a shoulder massage in his suckery. They promoted him quickly.

Never EVER kiss ass at work. Its pretty simple, just be humble and do the best job you can and your good results will often speak for itself. Ass-kissers may get promoted before you but you can sleep at night knowing you aren't one.

If on the other hand its a company-wide jerkfest or kissfest then you are likely better off working somewhere else. Same with "workplace drama".

Never EVER kiss ass at work. Its pretty simple, just be humble and do the b job you can and your good results will often speak for itself. Ass-kissers get promoted before you but you can sleep at night knowing you aren't one.

My boss was getting his ass kicked in the mens' washroom one day. I pulled the attacker off him, and then I did the same for a customer who was invovled
in the same brawl. When it was all over, my boss pretended like it never happened. He's an Iraq war veteran and that incident was a threat to his reputation.

How is it possible for an Iraqi war veteran to be such a terrible fighter? I'm an overweight computer nerd, with few fighting experiences, and I rescued 2 people like it was nothing. I didn't even break a sweat. I'll assume that sometimes these war veterans come home & get lazy, and they're no longer doing their push-ups.

But regarding butt-kissing, there are certain jobs where it becomes necessary, because coworkers will do anything they can to keep a person down if he/she doesn't suck up like the rest. They use it as an opportunity to attack. "Hey boss, non butt-kisser forgot his badge."

I've worked in retail the past several years & still have had the same job
2.5 years. The last part is VERY important. Anyway...last week I was called into the manager's office for the 1st time and had a "discussion" about my "attitude". Add to that...he was concerned I was not a "team player".

In terms of kissing brown...I've had "customers" (less than human beings) who have no problem screaming at the top of their lungs how much of an a**hole I
am if I don't/won't assume the position. This is the 1st time anything the managers have said anything at all to me...with never having been written up about anything. Rarely ever call off sick...except if I am death's door.

At the other one...the "team" player remark come from another employee in another department who refuses to look for anyone else to help move whatever
it might be. I get busy & tell her...I'm not a "team" player. Maybe I
should've asked her if she wanted to install shower rails on my arse to help her have an even better method to help herself.

I ended up applying for/getting an overnight position stocking the shelves...which means no dealing with jerks...sorry customers or needing to bend over to make other employees look good. People think this is a bad move for me...but at least it keeps me out of prison by not hurting someone who deserves it. I can go into work...do my job with my music playing & go home. F*** everyone else & their feelings of getting in the way of the employees/managers not making big enough of a bonus to take care of their mistresses.

That's excellent. I work better with less supervision too. I realized this several years ago while working at a Walmart warehouse. I was working with a back injury that happened on the job, and Walmart was very reluctant to pay my hospital bill, but I was still on the job & not crying about the pain.

But then I reached my boiling point when I needed to piss and the boss told me "We've only got 45 minutes left to work - just wait until we're done." That was my last day on that job, and my last day ever working under close supervision again.

a back injury that happened on the job, and Walmart was very reluctant to
pay my hospital bill, but I was still on the job & not crying about the
pain.

Just got the offer letter this morning. Have a 19 cent raise with a regular schedule all the time. No dealing with jerks & rotating schedules. When the only bad thing I see is working overnight...I can deal with it & am excited
by the change.

In terms of Walmart...did a temp job there many years ago for a week. Strange company to work for with a pep rally to start out your day.

None at all...since from what I understand...will be working by myself in the future. No prickery at all & just gotta make sure I shut off the phone during the day. Window already has a gray blanket over it...so will be dark.
