I haven't watched an NFL game in nearly two years, and will
continue my boycott this year. I don't care about rule changes,
but the kneeling for the national anthem is the dealbreaker for
me. Bunch of disrespectful, entitled, prima donnas who can't just
play a simple game without getting political. Screw all of em.

I have always prefered the college game myself. Looking forward
to the season starting Labor Day weekend.

Yes, I like to watch some college football, but certainly not a
fanatic about it. I especially like the in-state rivalry games
near the end of the season.

My real sports passion is hockey, and baseball to some extent.

... Forbidden fruit is responsible for many a bad jam.

I can't say I enjoy football anymore. Too politcal and too many stops. I am not a fan of all the new rules, and prefered when the QB was fair game.

I get concusions, etc. but the sport has changed so much its become boring.

I am looking forward to the Bears season tho... If they can make a dude retire during pre-season that D is gonna be hellafied... <sarcasm />

HA. Very true. It's bothered me for years the Jets and Giants don't play in New York anymore. New statiums are being built for other NFL teams. Maybe one will be built in New York eventually? Hey .. I can dream ;-). That said, the way both teams are playing it doesn't matter where they play. The good news is the Packers won a great game last night! Rogers is the man! :-)

Yes, I understand that soccer (football to you) is the biggest

I think football (USA version) is probably the "biggest" sport
here these days, even despite the "social justice" issues that
have embroiled it. Baseball was always known to me as "America's
game", but seems to have declined in recent years. Most people
find it too slow-paced and boring. Basketball has it's following,
but I think it's also on the decline overall.

I have somewhat of a cyclic interest in baseball, but my
major/favorite sport is ice hockey. :-)

Before sporting events it customary for everyone to rise for the playing of our national anthem. Kapernick took this time as an opportunity to protest police brutality by kneeling and "taking a knee" in protest during the ceremony. He did this to get people's attentoin, and sure enough he recieved more than his share of negative attention because it was revered as being disrespectful during a time when most reflect on those who served and died to protect our nation, and celebrate our freedom. The NFL is pretty strict on
how athletes promote personal political and charities on the field, and some believe "on the field" includes being on the field creating a distraction during a period of respect.

Some argue and say they don't go to an event for the opening ceremony and
don't care, and that's fine. There's enough people who disagreed and showed they can hurt the NFL financially. It boils down to how hypocritical things appear when a large money driven organization goes "woke" and their sudden awareness of social justice appears to be pandering to a specific group.

If a player wants my attention to a cause, take a knee during the game, especially during a play.

what i dont like about it is it was a huge distration and the media ate it up like crazy and then everyone had to hear about the kneeling. and then all the other people felt obligated to kneel or they were racist.

Baseball is considered the national favorite, however I think there's way more
money behind pro football. Baseball has a simpler, more laid back
appearance, so when there is any controversy with the team owners or players, people tend to turn away from it for awhile. It has it's ups and downs, but there is always a dediciated group of followers that love it regardless what happens. My grandparents on my father's side lived in Bayside, NY up until
the 1950's and my grandfather worked for the NYPD in NYC. My grandmother's brother in law used to socialize at a club where the NY Yankees would go, and knew Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. One of my father's cousins told me their
uncle bought a baseball glove for Gehrig, and he used it for awhile.

My grandmother was a Cubs fan, and her sister and brother in law were die
    hard Yankees fans.

I think you have a fundamental mis-understanding of why these
jerkoffs are kneeling. They are *NOT* doing it as an "alternate
    way" to respect the anthem.

They are doing it purposely to show that they do NOT respect the
anthem, nor the nation that it stands for. They feel they have
been mis-treated by others in America, especially the police, and
choose this method to grandstand and introduce politics and
    "social justice" into sporting events.

Part of the problem for many that don't like this is that they
come to (or watch on TV) sporting events because they like
*SPORTING* *EVENTS*. Period. It is not the place to bring your
"cause" to, because it's got TV cameras all over the place (which
is a main reason they do it). A ballgame is a place to get away
from the normal everyday bullshit we are all subjected to.

Ask yourself this question: How many of these "elite" athletes do
*ANYTHING* to further this political/social agenda of theirs,
*OUTSIDE* of a televised sporting event? How many of them are
actually out in their communities doing positive things to bring
about the change they desire. Things that actually help other
people, when there are no reporters or cameras around.

That's right. Virtually NONE of them. That should tell you
    something.

Not being American but also from a country with a patriotic DNA toward symbols I still don't understand why Kaepernick was so much bashed after it.

To refer to above comments, some people come to the church and do not pray at all, don't react on moments when to knee and when to stand and all this rubbish actions that for sure catholic church educates you to do.. does it mean behavior is offensive to the faith and people should be crucified for it?

Maybe out of desperation he could not find other way to make a point. I consider it much more constructive what Kaepernick did than all that Black Lives Matter bullshit that came out of similar frustration but outcome is robbed stores and cars torched to the ground. And guess what.. people were kneeling back to terrorists to say I'm sorry.

I'm an outsider but I think America has a lot to learn how to deal with social unrest in a constructive way.

Taking a knee is seen as a form of protest, and even thogh it's protesting police brutality against black people, it was done at that time of the game

You know, something similar started happening to tabletop RPG games, which has ruined
a lot of games for me.

You try to have a very serious game about undead robots fighting alien werevolves and
then the manual throws you some political message in order to ruin your fun.

To refer to above comments, some people come to the church and do not pray at all,
don't react on moments when to knee and when to stand and all this rubbish actions
that for sure catholic church educates you to do.. does it mean behavior is offensi
to the faith and people should be crucified for it?

I think it is assumed a lot of people goes to church without "knowing the moves". For
example, if they are going for the first time or whatever. I think not knowing what is
propper is somewhat excusable, specially on religions that promote giving-the-other-cheek or accepting that humans are falible and suck.

I am not church goer, but the times I have been to one because of social circumpstances I have done my best to adapt :-P

Now, I think we can agree taking a knee was a clear declaration of political affiliation. Much like singing "Cara Al Sol" in mass. Singing that is not an alternate
way of doing anything, it is just a way of declaring yourself a follower of General
Franco's Fascism. And it would not fly well among non-fascists.

I gave up on that shit-show about 4 years ago when the whole
Kapernick bullshit started. Don't miss it a bit.

haha, do you care to explain what that was about, for those who
    are not in the US?

Kapernick started the whole thing about kneeling during the
playing of the national anthem before games, as some sort of
"protest" against unfair treatment of black people. Many people
found (and still do) that to be disrespectful, and a lot of folks
gave up on the NFL (and basketball/NBA, and to some extent
    baseball/MLB) because of it.

I keep debating with myself if I should stop watching the NFL. Unfortunatly I love the game too much. I played the game myself in Jr High and High school so I'm emotionally attached. I've been watching very closely this disprespecting our flag and I must say they have been behaving well. They even stopped a lot of the "show boating" but they do get penalized for that now. I doubt Kapernick will ever play in the NFL again. I hope it's a wake up call to keep politics out of sports. If I see it again I will definelty stop watching the NFL. Let them burn some buildings down. Just keep your protests out of sports.

Got your point sir, although everything is contextual I just reminded myself watching TV while France was hosting Euro 2016 Football (Soccer) Cup and when hooligans were being discussed I saw some English supported peeing and spitting and torching my country's flag.

Well first thought I had actually was "Fuck the Brits, come and I'll shoot a bullet in your fucking head you half naked fucking monkey, next time you visit my country for a stag party, me and my boys will throw you to the river with concrete boots to make your adventure more comfy".

so.. yes.. relatively speaking people might have felt offended by that famous kneeling, big time.

A not-too-shabby 2-1 so far. They just won against Washington, which honestl could have gone either way, but always nice to see a win. They play Dallas next, so we'll see if they can keep the momentum going.

Well it worked. Now they have to worry about their jobs. I hope they all feel it was worth it. Between the protests and Covid-19 I'm not sure the league can survive. It's simple math. If the fans aren't there you don't get paid. At the very least there will be some serious cuts in salaries.

While I was capable of playing athletic sports, eye cross dominance without proper coaching on how to deal with it held me back from doing anything
halfway decent, so I never was interested in football. Basketball was where
my attention span was. Same goes for soccer and hockey.

One of my gripes with the NFL or it's players in question are how the league rejected any attempt for players who wanted to bring attention to
non-partisan charitable causes, then all the sudden it's OK to take a knee dur ing a ceremony in the beginning of the game. If that time in the game was no big deal, they why did they strategically pick that time to protest?

    It's almost hockey season.

    Enjoy!

I am new to US sports being a football (soccer) follower for almost my entire existence. I have suddenly had an odd interest in the NFL over the last year or so though.

I follow college football more than pro. I did see a piece last night (actually twice) where they were advertising an NFL program and they seemed high on the LA Rams still, which is different than your analysis.

I think Miami was a contender until Tua got hurt... twice. That seemed to take some air out of their sails for sure.

I see ESPN are still high on the Rams for some reason. I don't quite get it as they were outsiders in the playoffs last season and it was somewhat of a miracle to see them pick up the Super Bowl. I know they're favourites vs Dallas this weekend but I can foresee an upset. I hope Dak isn't playing again, he should take another week off to ensure recovery.

The Eagles are looking sharp obviously, being 4-0, so I wouldn't see past them either... they should cruise past the Cardinals.

Seems like Tua should take a few more weeks off now as that head injury could have long-term effects on him. I can see why the coach played him, given that he passed all the concussion protocols provided by the NFL and was signed off by the team doctor. It was just a big horrific seeing him throwing up gang signs after taking a massive clobbering...

If the Bills can stay healthy they have a great chance. Right now they have a ton of injuries. Fingers Crossed. :)

I hope so too! If any organisation's players/fans deserve to pick up a Super Bowl trophy, it's the Bills!

Cooper Rush is playing awesome too, so why rush Dak is right!!

Being a Giants fan, I hope not. But you are probably right. I think eagles are a lot better than the Cardinals, but you never know what can happen on any given Sunday!!

Yeah, its never really bothered me seeing guys get banged up with arms and legs, etc... But head injuries are a scary thing. I thought it was scary enough watching Daniel Jones stumble to the sidelines last year after getting clobbered, but seeing Tua's hands like that you sorta knew it was something serious..

Yeah, Wide right still hurts. I feel they have the team this year. If injuries keep them from being that team it would suck. I say this because it's so hard to keep players for long like the old days. I'm afraid that if they don't do it this year it might not happen.

That was not his demeanor in college so that seemed a little off.

Probably the Cowboys. It's about time the biggest sports franchise in the world got back to winning ways! I personally can't see it though. We'll see how they do later today.

Absolutely. It's Rush's time to shine and at 3-0 why change something that works just to bring back your big name QB? Dak wasn't exactly inspiring in the first game either so that should be taken into account also.

Being a Giants fan, I hope not. But you are probably right. I think eagles are a lot better than the Cardinals, but you never know what can happen on any given Sunday!!

I didn't get to see the game but what an awesome comeback against the Packers! Makes me wish I had gotten tickets to see the game. The Giants are having a strong season so I would see them as dark horses this time around.

Yeah, CTE is no laughing matter so I hope the head-knock has no lasting effects. I guess injuries are a part of the game... I always found it strange that the average NFL player has a career lasting around 3 seasons when soccer players average around 15-20 seasons. It must be the injuries building up and becoming unmanageable forcing players to chuck it due to health concerns and/or a decline in performance.

I saw an ESPN documentary called the Four Falls of Buffalo and was gutted for Norwood and everyone associated with the Bills. They defintely deserve a Super Bowl and I would love to see that happen... it was brtual watching them go up against the greatest Dallas Cowboys team ever assembled lead by the legendary Troy Aikman. Made me feel like it was a foregone conclusion as there was no winning against THAT team.

Ah well, at least you guys are kicking Steeler ass as I type this :P.

If it had been someone like Pacman Jones, none of us would have been any the wiser.
